Pine Island Sound Conditions?
« on: December 10, 2019, 12:28:57 PM »
I'm headed to North Captiva Isle FLA with the wife and teenage son for Xmas week with the 200 Osprey in tow from Ohio and I'm seeking a red tide update and any local fishing info that members may have to offer. I've reached out to CAS member Capt Matt Mitchell of St James City about same, and he's been a great resource in the past, but thought I'd inquire from others who may have some insight on that winter fishery and the conditions we can expect. Thanks in advance for anything anyone has to share.

Not sure about Captiva but we were down in Gasparilla a month or two ago and the red tide was not terrible but definitely present. I've heard that it's cleared up most of the way since then though. Myfwc.com has a pretty good map

I live in Matlacha and the tide has clear out. As far as fishing report, sheephead bite has been good due to the cold weather, reds are plentiful along with snook (catch and release ), shrimp your best bait of choice.
