Fab Trolling Motor Mount

(1/1)

boatnamesue:
1976 170

Picked up a new bow mount trolling motor.  The 170 bow has that raised lip cap.  When the motor is in stowed position, the back side jus touches this lip.  Need to elevate the motor mount by 3/4" - 1".

Dimension of mount is 15.5 x 5".  Starboard wud be the obvious material to fabricate the mount from, but hey, who wants to spend an arm/leg if there are other likewise material options.  Heck, might even look for an HDPE cutting board to saw up.  This fab mount will not be bonded.  4 thru deck bolts/nuts will secure motor on fab mount.  Just needs to be marine sustainable and water resistant.   Thought about PVC board but this may not endure the exerted forces the motor is subjected to in rough seas.

Suggestions on optional material?

Is the trolling motor a Minn Kota?  If so, google RTA-17. If it's another brand I think most have a mount like this.

Thanks Rick.  Yes, minn kota RT70.  I entertained the idea of using the RTA-17 when I purchased motor.  But considering its price and its function, i dont need quick access to remove the motor and couldn't justify paying the price for a glorified mounting block lol.  More concerning tho was its stiffness.  As you know, the 170 bow is not flat, rather having a convex shape.  Didn't want the hassle of having to also fab shims to allow for flush mount.

I ordered a HDPP cutting board from amazon, $15.  Cut to mount size, drill holes, done.  And plenty of spare board for future use.
