Floscan purchase is upon me??
« on: July 05, 2015, 11:41:17 PM »
I am getting ready to purchase my new Floscan tomorrow or the next day. Looking for opinions from anyone that has one. I am looking into getting the 9000 but my gps does not have the hookup for the nautical mile on the ground. But I may get one with that in the future. So I want that option in the future. However the 7000 is about 100$ cheaper does everything the 9000 does except for the nautical miles on the ground option. How useful is this feature is it worth the extra cost???

Well I'll comment since I own one.

I have the 5000 model I believe. No bells and whistles just GPH and total gallons burned.
Bought in 1996.
Used on two different motors.
Very durable and scary accurate.
Will never own a boat without one that I use in any body of water other than my bathtub.

Sorry but I'm not familiar with all the new stuff they do but you really can't go wrong.

Good luck :thumright:

OK,
So I read about the 9000 and the nMPG feature. It seems like a nice feature in distance to fuel consumption that is based on actual running conditions in real time. With the old school fuel burn, you based your MPG on a series of trips to get an average. Mine has worked out to about 2.45 mpg so that's the number I use to do the math in my head. Drawback of course is that is an educated "guess". It would seem having the actual distance/fuel remaining number at the time you needed it would be nice. Seems more of an "offshore" feature when pushing the envelope.

Worth an extra c-note? How much is one willing pay for a warm and fuzzy feeling 40-60 miles offshore?

Good luck. :thumright:

After speaking with floscan themselves. I decided to go with the 7000. The 9000 has that feature but requires the link to your gps system which mine does not have. They also told me that that port is going away on many of the newer plotters out there. So for $!00 less I am going to get the 7000.
