Keep me reeled in!
  That wasn't exactly the intent, but I just can't see BOTH sets of carbs fouling the exact same way at the same time.  Methinks the issue must be further "upstream" if HC's description of what appears to be an obvious excess fuel is accurate.

well guys'
I know it's been a while but here are the results on the carb. problems............
o.k. where do I start:
couple of the floats had to be reset. a little bit dirty. nothing really out of the ordinary for standard use,
except, for some damn reason I was missing two jets off two carbs? don't know how that happened!!
the standard jets are supposed to be 59d jets. I picked up a high performance 1985 Johnson 140 I found online for parts,
for free. I pulled the jets out of those carbs which were 71d I believe. not much of a difference in performance except for fuel useage.
I'm replacing the 71d jets back to the stock 59d jets this weekend, just want to keep it stock. don't know how the boat was planeing
with out the jets?
Well that's a quick brief summary. Any thoughts from you guys?

HC-

Gotta "love" the unanticipated and undiagnosible problems that come from prior owners effing things up and not telling you.   Glad you found it....stay in touch as you tune her up!!!

FYI - I agree with restoring to stock for now...but you need more details for any quality feedback.   Use your engine model # to verify proper carbs, jets, and other parts.  Once you have her back to stock, then we can offer REAL feedback.   :thumright:

good morning Georgie,
thanks for the response,
when I put in the 71d jets, I didn't even put her in the water to test it out. I went on
a website and put in my engine info j140tlco is all I needed, I went the carburetor
section and found out the proper jets were the the 59d jets, they are on order as we speak.
I also ordered 4 float bowl gaskets and 4 spaghetti O-rings for the backside of the carbs.
just waiting on the proper jets. everything else in the carbs looked pretty darn good.
soon as I sea trial her, i'll let you guys know the results.

ya'll have a good day.

o.k. guys,
finally........ordered the proper 59d jets for my engine, new float bowl gaskets and the
spaghetti gaskets for the backside of the carbs. Installed everything last weekend,
That damn old Johnson ran fine, the wife was extra happy about that. a sea trial
turned into a beautiful day at sands cut in Biscayne bay.
just ordered new thermostats and gaskets, cause I'm not to sure when the last time they
were replaced. installing them this weekend.

guys,
I really appreciate all the helpful input from ya'll. after the thermostats go in,
the next step is paint and kiwi grip. already got her sanded down
ready to go. i'll post before and after pics of her sanded down, then after she's
painted and kiwi gripped to show ya'll.

thanks again,
HC

Great news.  Give us some feed back and pics of the Kiwi grip.  I'm considering using it on my 170.

I will let you know. I could not find a kiwi grip dealer in Miami, can you believe that?
the nearest one is in vero beach, fl. so i'll probably be ordering the kiwi grip in about a week or two.
soon as I get it done i'll post the pics.

You mean THIS Sands Cut?.......yup.   :D

You MUST find a way to get there on a weekday.  TOTALLY different place without the crowd.

btw - that's the Admiral, my brother, and future sis-n-law.

If you know Sands Key then you know Billy's Point to the south. This was taken on a weekend and was always the stopping point coming in from the reefs before heading in across the Bay.

I'm going back at least one more time. Hopefully later than sooner.
