I think recoring the transom is probably a little over my head. The transom has a few cracks but its not weak. Im about 185 and there is no flex when I stand on the motor and I tried to make it flex if you know what I mean. I havent pulled the motor off yet so when I do Ill see if there is any rot or try to anyway.

Looking at the pics you've posted I don't see anything alarming about your transom.  If you don't see any deflection when you bounce on the motor it's fine. Usual cracking happens near the top where the liner comes over the top. You can seal that for many more years of use.
Sorry to hear about your bike - it's one less thing to get killed doing though.

Oh and if I haven't already done this, welcome aboard Mattakeese   :!:  :!:

Thanks, Rick. Do you know if the problem had been fixed in posting pictures? Cannot seem to get that window to appear in the top right corner to click on.  Thanks.

Thanks for the message LilRichard, I will take you up on that. Well I got a little more done today. Got the motor off, console out, plus all the wires and cables that go along with it. 38 years of splicing makes a mess. Now I just have to clean it real good before I start fairing and sanding. What is the best fairing compund to fill in all the hairline cracks that I have?

(Admin note) The reason the pics didn't appear is you were missing the first "[" before IMG - maybe you missed that when you copied the code?)

Well not much to post. I started sanding today,I forgot how time consuming it really is, But its coming along. Will post more pics when shes got a little more done on her. One question though, Can I use a wire brush attachment that goes on a grinder to skuff up the floor of the boat? I have been told by several people that thats all I have to do if I am going to roll non skid on the deck. What do you think? Sandpaper or wire brush. Thanks RC :)

Got a little more sanding done today until the sticky stuff on my sanfer wore off. Inside is mostly done except for the floor and going over all the cracks and chips with watertite and going back and hitting them. Also got one side done yesterday.

Started filling cracks, nicks and holes today. There are a lot more than you think. Started to just spread the filler over the entire boat and sand again. Any way, not much but it is still a little boat porn.

You are doing a great job - much more ambitious than me. I am filling and sanding quite a few small holes in the bottom of mine too before I recoat with bottom paint in the spring. I know you have a lot on your plate, but while it's all apart, think about setting up a circuit and wiring on the courtesy lights and put LED rope lighting up under each of the rod holder comparments. It's cheap to buy and you can order it in like 15' lengths in a few different colors. Google LED rope lighting for 12 volts, and there's lots of stuff there. I know you've got more important things to finish.....

Got a little more done today. Console filled and the rest of the boat is about 90% ready for primer. Im getting anxious as Im going to get my paint tommorrow and my rod holders just came in. Can I get another coast gaurd placard for my boat pictured here on the console? Or do I need to save it or paint around it.

Transom is as strong as a rock and no need to rebuild it.
