We built an inner skin spaced 2" from the outer and filled it with transom putty. The knees are attached to the inner skin to support it while putty was poured.

So you poured the transom - that'll last ya for sure.
So the kness inside are temporary?

You will certainly have less fairing to do than I will, I was wondering where you were headed when you cut out the old outer skin. I see some woven laying on the cap in one of the pics, what type of layup did you use for the inner and outer skin ?

You guys are on a mission. I am getting inspired sitting here at the office. Looks like you are on track to finish this boat pretty quick!

No the knees are going to tie into the stringers. We just put them in early to support the inner skin and keep it from bowing out as we poured the transom. They are permanent.

Melba, it's going faster than I thought it would. I'm trying to get as much done as I can while my son is excited and motivated. LOL
I have no idea what you mean by lay-up. I'm just following directions and using the different mats the way I'm told. I'll see if I can find out.

Transom looks good, I like the way the knees tie in too :thumright: Are you going to go with a 2 stringer layout from the knees to the front..and will they be spaced apart for your new tank? Are you going to add bulkheads?..So far it looks like you and your son are doing a great job, always fun to get the kids involved, shows them what a little thought and sweat can do and you guys can always have pride in that you did it yourselves :salut: And if your not using any wood in your build, your grandkids could wind up using the boat :lol:
I may be out on a limb here, but I think melbetoast was referring to how you glassed the outer skin on the transom when he refered to the lay-up..most times it's talking about how you put the layers together, such as a layer of 1708 glass then adding a layer of 6 oz glass over it and wether it was done wet on wet(not letting it dry between layers) or dry one layer, sand and clean then add the next one a day or two later....just my .02 :cheers:

Thanks, and when we did the outer "skin" for the transom we first sprayed gelcoat. Then layed a skim layer of glass. Once that dried we sanded and cleaned that layer and added a heavier cloth wet out on both sides. I dont know the ratings of each layer, im basically following directions and getting each step approved before moving on. LOL Im as green as it gets.

I havent had much time to spend on it lately but I did get the deck height figured out, foam cut, and tabbed into the hull. (after much griding/sanding) Ill see if I took a pic...

Yes Im doing two main stringers with the tank between them and then running bulkheads to tie in the sides. Ill also be finishing the cap over the transom and glassing the entire cap to the hull.

I see you used the old flange as a reference, then raised the floor height.

I like the stringer layout. In retrospect, the two sets of stringers I built was overkill and will add a good bit to hull weight. I think the stringers/wings setup you have looks great.
