Looking to start a rebuild on my 1970 19-1 osprey. Deck is spongy in spots, so new deck for sure. Transom appears to have been done at some time in the past, so im basically looking to do a floor and cap rebuild

Does anyone know if these boats ever came with below deck fuel tanks? i am looking to install one when i remove my old floor

I don't know if they originally had them, but you certainly can add one during your rebuild. That is what most of us do.

There were a number of different fuel tank sizes offered for the 19-1 and again were they below deck ?????

As Craig stated above, SOP is to install below when rebuilding.

Note, while not shown, tank is mounted forward under console. Read the early posts on how the original owner cut out the stringer sections in the stern to mount his tank under the deck. :think1:

Thank you all, problem is i cant find any evidence of a tank below deck. When i purchased the boat, the old owner had run it off of external tanks. Is it possible that mine doesnt have a tank? It seems to have the original deck and console.

Absolutely.
As stated, your year may have only come with an external tank. If you have no visible fill then I say you won't find anything under the deck. As you progress with your rebuild, you can then make the decision where to mount your new tank. Even if you did find a tank below deck, I'd bet it would be corroded beyond use.

Only ran the boat a few times when I bought it then began the tear down, it planed easy without trim tabs but keep in mind my driving position is just about where most console front seats are, seemed to ride about like any average boat of this siz, other than that I really didn't put it through enough to answer your other questions.
Don't think it would've 'kicked out', with the slight V to the hull that shouldn't be an issue like it can be in a flat back.
The original placement of my fuel tank, as was yours, is in the console above deck. Mine was 26 gal. and further forward than most being a Gull model. But thats changed now, I've also placed a tank under the deck but haven't ran the boat with it as it's not finished...
Will try and get measurements from the cap down to the deck for ya this week.
In the mean time heres a pic of the transom, with some of the deck left just below the lower engine mounting bolts.
