Changing Garelick seat pedestals on my 96 Aquasport 215 Explorer
« on: November 14, 2020, 07:33:12 PM »
I’m wanting to change the Garelick bases and low profile pedestals to a taller pedestal so that I’m able to see over the windshield while seated and cruising. Do I just remove the base screws or do I have to remove them a certain way so nothing gets screwed up?

I would imagine they are thru bolted and you could access the nuts via the compartments located next to the pedestals.

I don’t think that there are any compartments except for the livewell on the starboard  and portside storage area, both with cushions on their lids? Are you thinking access through them?

The question is, is there nuts on the back of those screws or are they wood screws? Can you reach into the wells and feel the bottom of where it is mounted? If you don't feel any nuts, then I would try removing one of the screws. Maybe taking a pic with your phone would be easier?
They've changed the vendor since my 230 was made - here is a pic of the base for my helm seats. Mine were more of a compression style.

Picking boat up tomorrow after Suzuki 250’s 300 hr service. I will reach in the compartments to see if there is access under the bases. Thanks for that idea.

There is no access to the bottom of the seat pedestals from the livewell or storage compartment.

Well then, your next move is to try and remove one screw from the pedestal. That should give you a good idea what you're dealing with and then go from there.

Good luck. :thumright:
