Title: battery recharging
Post by: flyboyo2 on November 09, 2017, 07:26:00 PM
I'm stumped again. 1989 mariner 75 Voltmeter on boat followes the throttle...14v at idle at 1500 rpm it pegs out high.  A VOM on the battery shows the same.  I have about 10 hours with these readings with no accompaning heat build up anywhere, battery, cables or regulator.  Battery did not need water top off.
What am I missing here, should I just go ahead and replace the regulator?  One like my big fin cooled 4 wire regulator is over 200 bucks and I don't see how a new square reg. with 6 wire would replace it.
Thoughts?

Thanks Cpt. Bob.
I am concerned with the different configurations between my current regulator/rectifier and the new style from CDI.  The reg/rec I have now is huge with cooling fins and takes up about 2/3s of the width of the motor. It also has three posts where  two yellow, one red are attached. It has a small red wire emmiting from the reg/rec itself and is grounded.
The new style has six wires coming from the device itself and is half the size of the old one. NOS are available at twice the price and with my limited knowledge and ability I guess I should bite the bullet and get one. It would require only replacing wire for wire and would not require a mounting bracket.
