My 89 222 CCP is getting a face lift
« on: March 08, 2010, 08:53:58 PM »
I has taken me long hours to redesign my console.
I purchased new
hydraulic helm
Yami Control
Yami key switch
gauges:
Tach
Volt
Fuel
32" bracket with swim tabs(maybe installing next weekend)
If powder coater can get there act together.

I'm relocating all the gauges to the left side of the top
Left where the second hatch was located.  The stereo is
going down in front where the switches were factory installed.
Now the switches will be top left with the gauges.

Take a look all...
I will keep this topic going with pics.

Thanks Guys at Classic Aquasport for all of your support
Uploading pics now (wish me luck)
Still not quite sure about pic upoad

Sully,
What's your thought on where the gauges use to be?

Lookin' good :salut:

Hello my buds of Classic Aquasport
(answer to prev. post about old loc. of gauge cluster)

I'm actually planning a full glass over.
I just started filling in all the cutouts last night.
I'm using 3/4 ply and filling with fiberglass strand filler.
Once these locations are filled, I plan to use fiber matting
and g/c the entire surface for a nice clean look.

I was not really pleased at the angle the gauges were located.
The previous lazy owner modified the gauges to be on top of
the Plexiglas instead of under.
I find the gauges should be seen at all times not
glanced at once or twice.

I just got the new gauges in last night.
Very Nice... :cyclops:

I will deff. keep this post going with pics.  (keep checking in)

Thanks all for the kind words.

keep on keepin on.

I'm still...........waiting on powder coater for the bracket.
I got it back last week and it looked really bad.

So only time will tell.

Take a look at the first atempt prior to powder coating
the bracket.

Thanks all

Good progress - interesting idea with the gauges.  Be careful though - glass over the gauges could be a recipe for fog and condensation.  Most quality gauges today are pretty good handling spash and moisture on the front - not so good from the back.  Look at airplane windows and you will see they all have little drill holes for air flow.  When the plane is airborne, there is a constant flow of air through the window plates - that keeps them from fogging.  Covering electronics makes sense to keep moisture out, gauges can be a little different...

Thanks for sharing your experience and keep the pics coming so we can see how the project moves along!

Maybe I read the post wrong but I think Sully meant (?) that he was glassing over the cutout where the factory gauges were originally on the console.
I could very well be wrong.

Correct my friend.
I'm working on glassing over the factory gauge location
and relocating the gauges to the top left with a dash panel
instead of the factory hatch panel.

This makes it much easier to monitor instruments.

Thanks

I will upload the pics once the dash panel is complete.

Here is a pic just before starting the fiber filler.
I cut 3/4 ply to fill the holes now for the fiber strand filler.

Notice the gauge panel is not yet installed.

I'm working on that this week.

Thanks
Sully

Gotcha!   :thumleft:   When you said "glass over" I thought you meant glass, not fiberglass - duh for me.

Sully,

Like that you're taking the time to do it right, and able to do your own quality work. Had you taken it to a yard, it would have been an hour job, white starboard veneer, call it good.

You are being true to the "Classic" theme....keep it coming!

Ok after a long wait Procoat (Tampa) has really done a great job on my bracket.
I was trying to get her installed yesterday although just two of the bolt locations
were giving me grief.

Please take a look.
I would love to hear get some feedback.
Or just wait until I return from the Keys to finish the install.

Thanks
Sully

More pics

Esp that darned two second from the top bolts.
Just an inch or less from the bottom of the deck.
Would not be bad w/o all the excess epoxy buildup under the deck.

Thanks again
Sully
