I was wondering where all the FF's were......good to see there are a few out there...Is the I/O I have rare?  I almost glassed in the hole and got a bracket but read that they are sensitive in the rear and found a low hour 470 cheap, less than the cost of a fiberglass motor bracket. PLUS, If im not mistaken, the 222 came with the 470 originally.

Where did you hear the sensitive issue. I just want more deck and the extra floatation. I would have done it.....but like they say if it aint broke.....

I looked at closing up my transom and installing a bracket on  my FF when I had to replace my transom.
I opted against going that route. Just too much uncertainty about the final outcome as far as how is the boat going to handle with the new mods.

I was afraid it might just end up being a costly mistake.

I actually read about the sensitivity on this site somewhere.  I also talked to a few people who think that the I/O might actually handle just fine, less the deck robbing cowl.  Plus, I found a low hour 470 with a trailer for 1200.00 and it runs perfect so it was a no brainer for me.  I will let you know how mine goes when it sees the "big pond"

I'm not doubting your decision.  I would have done same if pennies were tight.

Let us know how she runs withe the 470 I/O.

Welcome to the madness.

Thanks...Will do!  I might need to talk to "Aaron" about the alternator conversion if he's still around.  I heard the 470 stator and water cooled voltage regulator may be a little unreliable and I do have big plans for trips to Montauk, Block island and other great fishing grounds in the area.  Although a sea tow membership is cheap.....

Well ad me to this club. After FINALLY selling my 21 mako my brother and I bought a 1978 246 Family Fisherman yesterday in pretty nice shape on an aluminum trailer for 800 bux and we already have a 225 Suzuki four stroke that should push it nicely.
We'll probably have to redo the transom before we strap on the new motor but otherwise the boat is in its original unmolested condition and even the teak is still there and in good shape.
Does anyone on here have a picture of the original splashwell bench seat they could post here ? Mines missing and I think I'm going to rebuild it in either starboard or fiberglass but I'd like to see one first and I have so far struck out on finding one on the web.
Thanks!
Levi
