If replacing the fuel tank with a poly tank, then no foam is used per manufacturer requirements to allow for expansion. Only straps to keep it in place.
If your tank is aluminum, not sure what USCG requirements say, I always assumed foam was optional in this case as long as the tank is strapped down good.

The measurement advice is good and I will do that. I have some more pics of stringer defoaming. There is a lot of foam in the stringers.  Will post those soon.

I would really like to NOT foam the tank in. Is that stupid or unsafe? How much foam does the uscg require? Getting ahead of myself with these questions.

At any rate, when defoaming is complete will pick up Coosa, start grinding and then glass in Coosa. Im sure i will have lots of questions. Have a great day everyone.

Before putting the deck back together, I wanted to remove some epoxy that I had carelessly splashed on the gel coat when I was rebuilding the deck for the fuel tank. It’s a spot about 3 by 6 inches with epoxy embedded in the nonskid.

I did some searching on the Internet about how to remove cured epoxy from gel coat, but I didn’t find anything better than what is in the West System fiberglass manual: “Use a heat gun to soften the epoxy (200°F). Heat a small area and use a paint or cabinet scraper to remove the bulk of the coating. Sand the surface to remove the remaining material.” I tried carefully heating up the area with my heat gun, but the epoxy wasn’t softening, and I was concerned that I might damage the underlying gel coat by overheating, so I tried another approach – hot water. I first tried soaking a towel lying on the epoxy with water at exactly 200 degrees, but the epoxy didn’t budge. However, pouring boiling water directly onto the epoxy did loosen it up enough to be picked out with an awl whose taper matched the grooves in the nonskid.

This method was tedious but effective. At one point I had three pots of water on the stove, as it was clear that water any cooler than boiling was ineffective. Scrubbing with a bronze bristle brush under boiling water removed almost all the remaining epoxy while leaving the nonskid completely intact.

I’ll finish cleaning the nonskid with some Soft Scrub and maybe some acetone or gentle pressure washing, but it’s clean enough for reassembly now.

Report back with what you purchased and how long it was so someone else can have that info. Thanks

Much appreciated. I’ll pull it and dip the tank. I will definitely go with the Reed style. I just replaced three on my Blackfin 29. Superior product. It will be the first time all 3 gauges are working at the same time.

NIce looking boat Daniel. It is an Osprey. Do you know the year?
If you are questioning the "225" because you measured the length overall (LOA) and it is longer, that is what is confusing you. The anchor pulpit is included in the LOA measurement. There is usually decals on the console showing the "225" that appears to be missing on this boat.
See this image.

There appears to be a "Tournament Master" decal on the side. That is a Trim package. See #23 on this pic.

If you have any other questions let us know.

We see this pop up from time to time and the stock answer is; "pull the sender and measure". Most members asking because they would like to have the sender on hand when they replace. Understood but....

Since different size tanks (depth) were used on different models, it's often unknown which size fits what models so .....

Here is a model that may be somewhat like yours: :ScrChin:
https://www.moellermarine.com/moeller-marine/fuel-accessories/fuel-senders-gauges/electric/electric-sending-unit-for-4-28-inch-complete-kit-with-fuel-gauge-035726-10/

It's adjustable to different depth tanks.
I retrieve the model # from this thread (see below), which is for a hull model that is somewhat like what you have.

If you want to update your mechanical sender, you may be interested in a "reed type" like this but you would again be best suited to measure first if you decide to install this type.

Lastly, mounting hole alignment needs to be considered. While, for the most part, these are standardized, checking never hurts.

Good luck.

Hello Classic AquaSport,

I recently purchased a 1995 AquaSport 2000 and it is wonderful.

I am having trouble identifying a feature (fuel vent?) on the starboard side of the hull.

It's a foot or so under the fuel cap, so I'm guessing it's some sort of vent.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Then I can determine if it is functioning properly, or if I need to get a new "cap" for the vent?

Thanks,

New Member - Andrew Drowne

Does it look similar to the small chrome one just below the top of the gunnel (fuel fill is just above) or the larger one down by the stripe (waterline). Sounds like it's the top one which is the tank vent. It may sound disgusting but the easiest way to test is to blow through that fitting. If it's clear, you will feel little/no resistance. That doesn't mean the vent hose is still attached to the tank (most likely is) but that can be checked by removing a deck plate over the tank coffin itself.
