i bought this boat. great shape but is not quite ready for paint. the previous owner paintted the boat with latex home paint. i'm the middle of stripping and sanding the boat. does anyone know were i can get a good livewell / leanpost besides hammerhead.

Where are you from in CT. I'm on the CT river. I have a 1968 22-2 FB. There is another one up here all redone (VERY NICE), I think it's a '67.

The '67 is a real early boat.  I believe the first production boats were in '66.

Am in Haddam.  Saw a beautifully restored 22-2 last summer tied up at the ECYC float... that yours?  Didn't see if it was a FB... was an early boat though.

Jim,

The one at the ECYC is the one I was talking about. The guy's name is Charlie and he did a real nice job with it. He replaced the "Aquasport" logo on the side of it with the same lettering but it reads "Aquayacht".

Mine is no where near as nice but I like it. BTW, I thought all the earlier models were flatbacks?? no? If not what is the difference?

The hull number on my boat is 274 I believe. I am in Essex also.

Are you a member of ECYC?

The early 22-2's were exclusively flatbacks.  Don't know what year they went over to the 12 deg. deadrise & dropped the FB.  There's a sprinkling of AS boats around but nothing like FL & environs.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that "Aquayacht" badge.  Looked just like the original script.  Unless I have that one confused with another, I seem to recall  the boat had some added brightwork here & there to dress her up some.  Maybe you can get Charlie to join the group and put up some pictures.  Post some of yours too!

Used to belong to both EYC & ECYC but for the little I used the facilities, I dropped my memberships.  Belong only to CCA.  My clubhouse is on my boat.

Am in the process of turning over my 170 to an old friend in Essex. You may see her around this summer.  She's a '72 with a 75 Merc and an older Evinrude 6 kicker mounted on the Port side.  Blue bottom. No name.

I posted some pictures of mine last night (Green Hull).

As for the "Aquayacht" he definitley dressed it up. He did a laminated teak sole, lifted the console 6" and raised the transom. It has a 140 Suzuki on it. Just a beauty. I saw him in the harbor one day last summer and told him when he's out I have to put mine away..haha

Also, I think I may have spotted another locally under a tarp. and it's been there for quite some time. When I get a chance, I 'm going to go poke around and try to find out the story. Not that I have anytime for a project.

Also, I'm trying to get a line on a dodger, preferrably used due to the cost of new. If you hear of one that you don't want, please let me know. I've messaged a few people here after reading posts, but no luck yet.

Mperk, nice looking boat.
Ditto on what Wart says about your trailer though.
Of course, you could go to the other extreme and use an oversized trailer, like mine.  :roll:  The trailer was my Mom's and it's been in the family for 35+ years - too good to toss.

I use the extra bunk length as a step into the boat at the house.

Rick, how do you like the bunk trailer? I was looking into roller trailers but they are considerably more $$ than the bunks.

FYI, I HAVE found another FB. the boat I mentioned is a 222. I look everytime I drive by and yesterday I actually stopped. The hull # is 418 so I think it's probably a '69 or 70 (my '68 is #274). It has an old merc on it. I am going to stop in when someone's there (probably today). If you or anyone else is interested, I'll let you know what I find out. The thing has been sitting there for about 2 years.

I'd agree with the others but if you launch locally, under the bridge in Saybrook or at the foot of Main in Essex and drive easy,  you're probably ok.

  The concern is that where the rear rollers are supporting your hull is the tenderest part of the bottom.  One decent bounce and the stringers can separate from the bottom.

The dark green looks sharp.  Is that a "wrap-around" grab rail?  Can you post detail pictures of it?  Haven't seen one quite like that before.

To me a bunk versus roller trailer is all about how much water you can get into with the trailer when launching.  If where you launch there isn't much water, a roller will make the on and off process much easier.  If the trailer is just the right size for the boat and the tongue isn't very long, the only way to get the boat out may be to hook a cable to the front eye and start cranking - then a roller would make sense to make that easier.

My trailer is a pure float-on (no winch) and was made for a 20 -22ft boat.  Being pure float-on means I need enough water to get the boat on the trailer. The trailer is very long which means I can get into enough water to launch/retrieve even at the lowest tides.  Haven't found a tough ramp yet down here.  When retrieving, the boat never touches the bunks until I pull her out.
I moved the boat forward as far as possible to give it a little tongue weight which exposed the back part of the bunks.  I wouldn't recommend buying an oversized trailer (more $$), I inherited this one and it's worked out great.  
To retrieve the boat, I back the trailer in, walk out onto the front part of the trailer, about 6ft, pull it on until it "clicks" and drive away.

Most trailers I've seen have maybe 3ft of tongue and they can't walk out on it at all.  Just a different design and everyone will have a different opinion on which design they like better.

Mperk,  Thanks for the detail pictures.  have not seen that grab rail arrangement before.  Maybe will duplicate that for my 240.  Console  rail was missing when I got the boat.

 Rick's trailer is a real slick set-up.  I think Rick said on another post that they don't make that type of capture mechanism anymore though.  I prefer roller trailers since they'll work for any launching situation.
