Lookinng for front anchor door 1974 170
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:02:36 AM »
Looks like a squirrel decided to make a home in the front storage compartment where the anchor sits. The hole to access the lock to open wasn't adequate for him so he chewed a more fitting hole for easier access. I've been looking for a teak replacement board and just make one but the search for 3/16 teak plywood isn't working. If anyone has a door or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it...……...Kevin

While it sounds like you want to DIY the hatch cover, you may wish to give this member a call.

Can you post a photo? I JUST took the front hatch off my 1986 170 and replaced with a watertight hatch. I was going to post and see if anyone could use mine. If it fits you can have it, just cover shipping.

When I bought my ‘76 170 it did not have a bow locker hatch.  Finally got around to installing one just a few weeks ago.  The dimensions of the access hole are unique, so unless you intend to fabricate yourself, you’ll need to widen the access to accommodate the hatches available on the market.  My access was 16” wide, which caused me havoc when removing and stowing my anchor.  So I choose to significantly widen so I could install the hatch pictured below.

You could also look locally for Brazilian Mahogany and buy 18" of it (x width needed top to bottom) x 1" thick to make your own.  I agree that pics would help us.

I would go the Brazilian Mahogany route - mine are still looking good.

Here’s  one I laid up rather simply

I didn’t have anything to go from so I just winged it. It’s not a tight overlapping /inset fit, but does seem to stop some of the water. Made it from teak scraps, didn’t want to deal with plywood delamination.
