Repower and upfit 1987 TM
« on: October 04, 2021, 10:10:27 AM »
I’ve had my 1987 TM for just over a year and I love it. Last winter I re wired the entire boat and installed all new electronics. Last week a had my port motor blow up. It is the original pair or merc 260hp 5.7’s with believe it or not 2,000hrs on them, It was borrowed time. I ordered a pair of brand new GM vortec 350’s and edelbrock marine intakes and carbs. I’m aware of the need of a different distributor gear. My question is. Has anyone ever ran there exhaust out the back with mufflers and sealed up the side exhaust?

I can't help you with anything about inboards but it seems the new engines will make the boat a lot more fun. BTW, "TM" doesn't tell us anything about the model, as there is a TM in a lot of models. I'm assuming it's a 290? Someone will be around soon that has the inboard experience.

I just bought one the ran out the transom and am thankful for that, I hate the side exhaust. I have one currently with yanmars that I'm swapping to the one I just bought.
