97 245 Explorer

Looking to move up from my 84 200XF to a 97 245 Explorer.  Any good advice on the Explorer?  I notice the draft is considerably different.  Is this due to length? Hull design? or just overall weight?

All three.

Your 84 XF is based on the Hialeah built CCP hull which had a shallow draft for its length. The Genmar hull is not only longer, but has a different  (plumb) bow configuration and as you stated, weighs considerably more. Nice riding hull but not a skinny water vessel.

Good luck.

Because of the solid fiberglass stringers, and composite transom, is there any issues with moisture in these hulls?  I know a moisture meter reading is always best, but from what I read on here, moisture other than in fuel tank coffin isn't so common.

As long as you have no leaking thru hull, it should remain dry. At least my '92 is.
