1982 29????
« on: October 14, 2021, 02:24:37 PM »
Back at the beginning of the year I purchased a 290TM 1986 model, mainly for the motors. I decided I'd fix it up and use it instead. Well, after getting into it I found termites. They had eaten the stringers, bulkhead, and transom. Fortunately I only paid 5k and it had 230hp yanmars so I'm not overly upset lol. Fast forward I found an identical one for sale cheap with gas motors so the plan is to make sure it's not rotten then swap in my yanmars. He says it's an 82 model. I haven't looked at it yet but did they make that boat in 1982? Also, is there any real difference in 1982 to 1986? On a side note, if anyone wants a free 290 hull that needs work I'll have one shortly. I plan on stripping it but if nobody wants it, it will be going to the landfill. It will be on a trailer and I would be willing to deliver and drop within a short distance of orange beach, al. Trailer not included lol.

That's what I was thinking. This one is almost identical to mine, just a couple Suttle differences.

It may be the 286 model. We did have a member here who stated he had an 82 290 so....

I would not be surprised that it is what it says. What is the HIN?

Aquasport did build some one-offs. As CB says, the 286 did happen before the 290 and then marketing math took over and the same boat became the 290. Once you find the HIN stamp in the aft of the transom, you'll know the year.

The HIN is tge first thing I looked for, I can see where the plate is but it was gelcoated over and can't read it. I'll be getting the wire wheel after it. It did have old documentation numbers I will run when I go back over this week to get the title
