175 rebuild

just starting to rebuild, first thing up is removing the partial  floor rebuild someone had no clue about doing and getting it down to the bare hull and cap, I am about to lift cap and flip to dewood and rebuild properly ill add pics as i go .

split transom , i will be hanging a 150 vro on the back so i wasnt chancing anything , while cap was removed i decided to investigated transom glad i did! also thinking about making some thru  stringers and making a setback transom 24" but have it attached thru the transom and onto hull so the weight is supported by stringers not the transom itself.

I think your choice of motors is a little dangerous. I saw a 170 with a 150 on it in the storage yard of the place I bought my engine and talked to the owner of the yard.  He said he warned the guy that it was too much weight but the guy hung it anyway. On the maiden voyage the guy accelerated, everything seemed fine and when he came off plane, the aft settled down in the water, the water came over the transom and swamped the boat. Sank on the spot.

i would agree however, i have seen the one with the Suzuki 140 and i saw another with a 150 prov , i will be closing in the rear of boat and building extended transom that connects thru the transom with stringers to hull. considering i am rebuilding the transom i believe i can be sure to support the weight self bailing wont be a issue because it wont have that since most boats seem to have a issue with self baling. im a dishonest 280 and my friends are Cornfed as well so i think i might need the extra horses lol but i want to hear others opinions as well :)
i will move the tank forward , create a hatch up front for batteries in bow  and i looked up weights there is about 20 lbs difference between 115 vro and the 150.

Good looking boat! Big fan of the hull color, my 170 is very close to that. That deck "repair" was definitely pretty jacked up!

Word of caution on the Suzi 140 vs 150... the 140 is basically an uptuned 115 (check weight/bore/stroke/rpm vs 115), whereas the 150 is a much bigger/heavier block. Not trying to talk you down, but I'd echo Rick that 150 would be dangerous and your center of gravity will be WAY too far back. The hull isn't meant to do 60mph and is very weight sensitive. Also you probably won't be able to get insurance on it with a motor that exceeds the CG plate.

yeah i have been comparing weights  and i get what you are saying i don't want to be at full load with just me on it lol and def dont wanna do 60 speed is not my true intent but hauling heavy loads without bogging down a engine is .

I think a smaller motor with the right prop could be an option. I run a zuke 140 on my 22-2. I went through 3 props before finding the right one and they were all very different. If top speed is not a concern then save the weight in the motor and go down a few inches of pitch.

For what it's worth, nobody on this site will berate you or try to make decisions for you - but some of the guys up here (not me) have some serious knowledge to soak up! Suggestions are all with the best of intentions, safety or otherwise.

As far as weight goes - I have loaded my 170 with extra kicker motor, full fuel load, full gear load, and four adults, and it still jumps right out of the water and performs great with an 85hp on it. They are very efficient hulls and do not need much persuasion to move them along.

I'll chime in since I owned one.
A 115 V4 2 stroker will haul you and your buddies at 40+ if you have the motor hung correctly. I ran mine with four "full grown" men and dive gear for many years with my 85 Johnson 115.

thanks yeah i think im going to try "trading" the 150 for a smaller engine, i put a brand new water pump and housing in it tonight and will fire it up tomorrow and then do compression test to be 100 % sure when i trade someone that there are no issues. it ran good a couple weeks ago when i purchased a boat with it on it the boat transom was shot so it went to dump i only wanted engine and controls/gauges.
i have no idea what a 150 vro should go for in event i have to sell because i wqas always a inboard , inboard outboard guy lol
