Just so there's no confusion, I like them too.
While searching for my WAC and testing the 225 and 250, I noticed the same thing. They are quieter than my 210 standard transom. Personally, I like brackets also and look forward to what you do with this SH. :thumleft:

definitely looks different, would be cool to do something like the calcutta 263 with an open euro transom with a flip up door

Wow! I really like that. I like the openness of that flip up door. I really want a cooler built in the transom, at least half of the transom. Maybe I will make the other half a flip up door like that.

How do they act with a trailing sea? I've never seen one on the water is the reason I ask.

The boys that fish up here with open sterns really like them.. Makes it simple to run gear off without having to heave traps around the washboards.  Following seas do come aboard in heavy water depending on what you are doing but you get used to how the boat handles then do your best to avoid the worst.  The open sterend boats that I know of have least a foot to a foot and a half of topsides at the stern so the situation is a bit different for the 240..

I will say it is a MIGHTY weird feeling running down the bay with the water temp at 50 degrees knowing there is nothing to grab onto if you slip as you are setting..  It really keeps you on your toes..  There is a bar that goes across the stern on a few and one has a bar with a length of shrimp net to keep things aboard when not hauling.

Installed transom. 3 layers of 26lb coosa bluewater 3/4". 1.5 oz matt and 24 woven roving in between each layer. Used screws to compress. The plywood was the part of the jig/template.

I started on the stringers over the weekend. I bonded the them, with vinyl ester and matt cloth to the exisiting stringers, about 2 foot in front of where the hull extension meets the existing hull, so it will have plenty of support. I used 26lb coosa for the stringer material.  I only tabbed down the stringers on the inside. I am going to cover the stringers with several layers of 1.5 oz matt and 24 oz woving roving, with vinyl ester, for strength. Then I am going to tab the down to the hull on the outside of the stringers with epoxy and 24 oz roving. I am going to try to put the pipes inside the stringers(from the console to the rear of the boat) this week sometime, and then fill with foam.

Nice work Orb    I love the Seahunter's :!:   It is a classic that we don't see enough of.  I don't think your transom is going to be strong enough   :thumright:

This is a neat rebuild because of all the different stuff going on. Just like the "flats boat" rebuild.

Good stuff, good luck and keep posting. :thumleft:

jdupree,

how do you like your 200 ox-66. I have considered getting a 250 ox-66. I hear they are very reliable, but thirsty. The 240 only has a 14 degree deadrise, so it wouldnt burn as much as a deep vee. I have also considered a fuel injected 2 stroke, but they are typically alot more $ upfront, and more$ to repair.

I love the OX66.  Yes, she is thirsty and loves oil, but hands down the best engine I have owned.  And I have owned them all over the years

Just make sure to keep the 02 sensor cleaned, VST tank clean of debris, and give her good gas and she will continue to run.  I no longer use Yamalube and have gone to the Penzoil synthetic XLF.  The OX66 is considered one of the best 2 stroke outboards ever produced.  I just don't say that because I own one, but if you google the OX66 that is the general opinion of most.
