Welcome aboard Wallen.
If you want to post a pic when you talk about your boat, which you should, follow the instructions here http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=12725.0  - don't attach them - you are limited by file size. Uploading them into your "member gallery" is better for viewing.
Spend a few minutes to absorb the instructions. It's really easy. Remember if using a phone to take pics, to hold the phone horizontal with the lens to the left.

The hard part was getting them into your gallery, now find the part in the link above that shows you copying some IMG code and pasting it into your post.

Wow.
If you want this right, then you need to start from scratch.
Do you plan to spend any time and money on this boat? If so, 12V DC wiring is not too difficult.

Here's some light reading to get you familiar with your wiring needs.

Good luck. :thumright:

Thanks .....as I get into this I will ask better,?s. Not sure of actual year but hope to find technical data, wiring diagrams, etc. I hope to do a fairly thorough rebuild but also hope to have in water in FLA this winter...possibly trailer back and forth to here in NH.
Will be looking for older Johnson/ Evinrude 100--130hp for power.
I'm sure I'll stop in here often as I get going.
By the way, boat, motor (90 Johnson VRO late 80s) and trailer cost me big bucks.....$200!!!!

I bought this era 170 earlier this year and had to do a little wiring cleanup. One mystery- was the battery originally in the center console, and if so, mounted where? My battery is in the stern and with that and the 6 gallon gas tanks the boat is a little stern heavy. I don't know that I would get around to replacing the internal tank anytime soon- moving the battery may be more practical. Thanks!

On my 170 the fuel tank was inside the console, above sole and the batteries were in the aft. '74 was the first year that the fuel tank was placed under the sole.

Has a gas tank beneath floor under console with fill on starboard gunnel. They had a plastic 19 gallon tank under console so I am going to remove original from under floor, repair hoses etc.  And replace and use. Right now we're trying to determine if 87 Johnson 90hp VRO is salvageable or finding new motor. Looking at an Evinrude 130 hp 80s/90s vintage. From what I have seen, boat rates for 130...??
It's a project but looking forward to putting it all together and fishing from it!!!
