Mike,

Looks good, coming along nicely.

Looking at the deck with the coosa board, how are they attaching that to the stringers??  I assume glassing it on, but how??  Also, what did they use in the transom??

Hey Guys, I guess a late response is better than none at all.

Rick, I decided not to use the old casting deck but rebuild a new one. I will definitely keep the same hatch layout as the old one. We had talked about that originally but somewhere alone the line they forgot. I’ve got’em straightened out now. The casting deck will have the same 3 hatch layout with a sub hatch within the larger forward hatch.

The sub deck hatches for the dive tanks will have little braces that will fit removable half moon foam inserts that the tanks will rest on so they don’t bang around.

MJB, they are using Coosa board as the core for the deck. The Coosa board will actually be glassed and finished before installed into the boat. The deck will then be secured down to the stringers with some sort of bonding putty (I didn’t get the name of it). Then any seams and the edges will be glassed over and finished.

Jim, I think the plan is to use the #10 screws for the cap. If that changes, I’ll let ya know what we do.

Oh ya,

Rick, the two areas adjacent to the tramsum are unused.

MJB, the transum was poured using a material called Seacast.

Hey guys,

It's been a while since my last update.
Things are definately comming along.
Here are a few pictures of the progress.

Rick, I am keeping the same casting deck layout as you can see below.

Here's a good picture of the hatch within the hatch.

This will be the anchor locker with a top hatch.

Here's the 25 gallon water tank. The fuel tank is forward of that and tucks about 12 inches under the casting deck.

Here you can see the idea for the dive tanks under deck.

I'm a bit concerned about my bracket. It's an old Armstrong bracket made of Stainless Steel, very heavy and no floatation offset built in.

I'd LOVE to put a Porta Bracket like the one below but there're really expensive

Shawn says I should have the boat in the water in time for the get together.  :P

It's amazing how much little stuff there is to buy when you're building something like this up from pratically scratch! By the time I'm done, I hope I can afford the gas to get across the channel to Shell!

Looking VERY good.

It depends on what you will be using the boat for.  If it's a dive and reef fishing boat, you do not need/want a porta bracket.  If it's a shallow water fishing rig, bite the bullet and get a porta bracket.

Either way, if I were looking for a fixed bracket, I might look for something other than what you have.  Floatation is your friend.

Hey Richard, Happy (belated) Birthday by the way.

I plan on doing a lot of different things with this boat.
Diving (the tank hatches and ultimately swim platforms), offshore fishing (the livewell & figuring out a fish box), family recreation (padding for the casting deck and a dodger bimini upfront for shade).

I’ve always done offshore fishing but mostly on the other coast and further south. What I don’t like about the gulf is you got to go 25 miles out for deep water and decent fishing.

I’ve never gone inshore fishing in my life but have been reading up on it lately. Redfish, trout, snook, tarpon. All seem great to catch, some great to eat and I don’t have to spend a couple hours each way to get to the fish!  I’ll probably start doing some inshore fishing.

I’ve thought about selling this bracket, buying one with some floatation and adding a remote jack plate. Any thoughts on that?

Mike, I'm no expert when it comes to boating, but let me just say that I have a Gil non-flotation bracket (80 lbs???) on my V20 with a 200HP Johnson Oceanrunner hanging off the back of it.  The hull is 20' 6", so it's a bit shorter than yours, but I really like the way the boat performs with the bracket.  I haven't had it out in big water yet and the biggest water I ever plan to see with it is the Chesapeake Bay.  So, I may not have the same issues that somebody else might have in bigger water and rough seas...

Anyway, I thought the non-flotation aspect was going to kill me, but it didn't.  I forgot to mention that I have a fully enclosed transom.  That might make a difference...

Looking good Mike :thumleft:
Those dive tanks look like they will be snug as a bug....  good design idea.
We need to meet sometime soon I guess, so I can give you the badges Jim brought down.

Looking good Mike.

If I had the bucks, I would get an aluminum flotation bracket from
http://www.stainlessmarine.com/single.html

A bracket lets you run the motor somewhat higher for shallow water.  A jackplate can be easily added later.

They are doing mine as we speak and you should at least give them a try for your estimate.

cboham30, Mine is being done at Stem to Stern. Shawn was able to start right away, quoted me a good price with some cool options and was just finishing up an old Proline that looked great.

All these guys, Stem to Stern, Hammerhead, Bayside, Boat Dr are all really good at what they do. You'll not go wrong with any of them. It comes done to schedule, price and design options that fit best with what you want.  I suggest that you go talk to all of them and see who fits best for your situation.

Not matter what though, in the end your going to have a beautiful "new" AquaSport to parade around and enjoy the water in.

Let all know what you decide and take lots of pictures!

Cboham30 & Undertow2, you guys plan on comming out to the semi-anual get together Oct22 or Nov 3 (which ever is decided on)?
I went out last time without a boat, just ot meet everyone. Great time was had by all.

Pushing hard to get her in the water. I'm still hoping to have her at least sea worthy by the gathering.

The deck is in, the cap is back on, the hatches are are almost there. I've got a leaning post, T-top, console and Porta Bracket in the works.

Found a GREAT deal on the T-Top.

Here's some pictures.

Transum will be closed off to hide pumps, wires and hoses.

Fold up will allow a live well under the leaning post
