Looks like a success to me.  Just as a matter of curiosity, how thick is the hull where you put the transducer?

Speaking of transducers, what is the reasoning/purpose behind dual frequency fish finders?  The one that came with my boat allows for a selection between a higher & lower frequency or a split screen.  High frequency fish & low frequency fish maybe?

thanks,

the thickness is exactly 3/8" solid.

if it was thicker 1/2" or 3/4" i would have skipped the backing block, but the tranducer itself has some weight to it, and wanted to support it and not stress the hull to much...

i'm not too up on the 200/50, but i think it goes with the size of the "cone" it produces, one is better in deep water than the other...but i know this is a 600watts unit and I plan to go with the new furuno fvc 620 fish finder which is also 600watts...

200 khz for less than 300'
50 khz for deeper.

It is the cone size and the performance of the ultrasonic sound at different depths.

OS,  That backer block should do the trick. Have seen some installations where the transducer is glassed to the inside of the hull but I think that method can be a little dicey unless everything is just right.  Some signal strength loss too.  With that new Furuno you will have NO excuses for not finding fish.

John, with all your traveling, Hampton Inn's must be feeling like home.
