That is a lot of plastic material hanging out there.

It needs to be supported so that vibration and pounding don't fatigue and snap it off.

This is the little stainless strap /bracket I used on mine.

If you didn't completely pull the tank and inspect it, then why not?

As said you were 90% there. here is a tank that the guy just wanted to replace the hoses. I told him were pulling the tank. He frowned.

No smell of fuel and no sign of a leak, UNTIL!

As to keeping water from around the tank.
We do the best we can, but the only why to truly know is to pull the console and hatch again. Whose gonn'a do that all the time? No one, and there lies the problem.

This is why treating the tank to 2 coats of Coal Tar epoxy eliminates that problem.

Foamed or not foamed it's a good idea.
new tanks average $10gal to have built. Never mind the work involved to R&R one. Especially after a total rebuild.

Foaming in a tank has got a bad rap due to water getting in the foam and staying in contact with the alum. The Coal Tar epoxy eliminates that problem.

Gas is aprox 6.5lbs per gal. a 50gal tank would weigh 325lbs. You don't want it moving. Not even a little. Boats pound and move. 4lb density foam is the standard for foaming a tank.
"Just \'cause it\'s new, doesn\'t mean it\'s worth a Damn!

I did pull the tank and inspect,  like you all said.  No problems at all, knock on wood.  I will support the pump for sure.  I have built about 15 livewell systems like this with no problem at all.  I usually do a little bracket like yours.  Thank you.

Fabuck-
Could you give a synopsis on how you fixed the soft spots in your floor without removing the liner?  I'm assuming that you removed the top glass skin, dug out the rotted core, fitted new wood and glassed it in.  Is that correct?  What sort of materials did you use and at about what cost?
Thanks.

Bushleaguer,

You are correct.  I drilled holes (Not all the way through) to dry out first.  Set the depth of the skil saw to 1/4 inch and cut out my area.  Measured and cut my balsa, matted the under wood and while still wet put it in.  Matted over the top and sanded smooth.  Filled with a mixture resin and glass spheres to fair and sanded again.  Then I painted with the first coat, and while still wet put down the non-skid.  Followed the next day with 2 more coats on top.

Slip,

I got that at T.A. Mohoneys in Tampa http://www.tamahoney.com/.  Mike Mahoney taught me how to install these about 15 years ago when I refurbished my first aquasport.  Be careful with those smaller filters if you fish the flats a lot because you'll be cleaning it more than fishing.

Hope this helps.

Well I have changed my mind after thinking more about what I am going to use this pretty lady for.  I am going to be doing a lot of Tarpon fishing and just think it is going to be a pain in the  :x  unhooking the anchor and climbing up that thing to hurry and get away from the bridges in a rush to land the fish.  I don't have time to do a dual station this year (Due to commitments in 3 tournaments), so it will wait til next year when I can do the whole thing like Madpipers.

Going with a new CC and leanpost/livewell.

Should be completed this weekend, pics to follow!

fabuck71,

Anxious to see the pics.  I noticed you used Easypoxy on the interior, how do you like the results with that paint??

Thinned it out and rolled and tipped.  It is great.  I am going to put one more coat on when I paint the console and livewell/leanpost.

Here are the latest pics, sorry for the delay.  Almost complete, just missing GPS/Fish Finder Combo, Beer Holders (I know those should have been first), Wire Cover and Bimini Top.

Livewell and console are 29", what a huge difference to walk around than the old 36" plus rod holders

I also have a new Igloo Premier marine cooler and cushion that goes in front of the console

New Trailer is soooooo nice

Rides so nice and rigged how I wanted.  Let me know what you all think!

Looks good, you've got a lot more useable deck space with the smaller console and leaning post. Will be even better having the removable cooler.
