fish box thu hull drain 76 22-2
« on: February 09, 2005, 07:43:38 PM »
boat is a 76 22-2

how many of you dont trust it and keep it stuffed with a cork ?

what happens if the hose that attaches to the thru hull come out. boat will take on water correct ?
i cant get to where the drain hose attaches to ensure a good connection so i keep the drain stuffed with a cork and remove and days end to drain out water after its on the trailer. should i not worry ?

thanks

Old School - Welcome to the site!  Do you have any pix of your boat? Especially the casting platform area - might help us to see what your up against with the drain and bow eye.  I've got a 1970 222 - I can measure the windshield if you like but I'm not sure it will work on your console.

I agree it's pretty problematic.  It could also be disasterous if it were to come apart.  I don't go so far as to cork mine. I think the best thing to do might be to cut (ack!) some inspection plates into the storage compartments just behind the fishbox, one near the thru hull and, one near the drain.  Mine has one near the thru hull but not  at the fishbox drain.

I've just about decided to re-configure my casting platform like the Shaeffer knock off.  I have a bow mounted chair now, but it's mounted to the fishbox lid which has delaminated as a result.  I like Shaeffer's solution, the fishbox is aft, where it can be larger anyway and, the split lockers are in front with a web between for a fighting chair.
