Title: Southeast Aquasport Octoberfest!
Post by: GoneFission on July 20, 2011, 08:34:11 PM
OK folks - by a big margin, it's October 15 in the Charleston area!

We will need some local folks to help find the gathering place - anybody up for that?

So mark October 15 on your calendar - and see you there!

More details to follow - gonna be fun!   :bounce:

Thanks for the legwork so far on this John  :salut:

My thinking is that this Fest would run much like last years in NC: We'd meet at a boat landing, fish, then find a semi-private place to drink, eat, and tell fishtales afterwards.   :drunken:

Fishing and producing seems to be the trickiest part, and which boat landing we choose to launch at will depend largely on what type of fishing we plan on doing.  I'm no Roland Martin, but there is a part-time guide that works with Pops at Key West that I'm trying to get chummy with.  I'm working on getting him and Dad in my boat or someone else's.  Hopefully this way we'll be sure to get some blood on the deck.   :pirat:

I'll update when I know more, but of course if anyone has any suggestions, please don't hesitate!    :bounce:

Looking forward to it

Alrighty then!

Hey Lew....you think they may have an "economic recovery special" on this joint?

http://www.vrbo.com/133262 (http://www.vrbo.com/133262)

This could be US! Scroll down, under "entertainment" it says " two jetted baths" and "jetted, HEATED" pool.

Well that doesn't sound quite right. When I say "US" I mean the group. No hard feelings, right?

Yeah, I called about that one. Four nights, tax , cleaning included is 2800 bucks. Yikes!!!!
I looked at some more and at this point we don't know how many people are going to show or if they are interested in splitting a place between us all. I hope Jessie can find us a place that fits our needs. I'll keep looking too! The good thing about the one you linked to is there is a marina next door. If nothing else we can meet there and head out for the day. Its only about 5 minutes away from the inlet and has slips you can rent. They have lots of parking for trailers but when I called them a couple of months ago the guy said their ramp sucks.

Anyway if you are interested in attending post back to this thread so we can see who all is thinking about it.

Alright Guys, and attending Gals-

I'm thinking that most of us will want to venture offshore, especially those of us with CCP's.  Just so you know, offshore conditions here are generally much worse than what we enjoyed in Southport...  So I'm trying to find places that will give us an option of convenient inshore fishing as well.  I've been looking at some homes in Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, and Charleston. There's a few homes to choose from, after narrowing it down to availability (I'm assuming check-in date with be the 14th), price point, and those homes which will allow pets, because I know Boo-Boo isn't going to miss the reunion

Here's what I've come up with:

Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms is close to the intracoastal waterway, which in itself has good inshore fishing, and Breach Inlet is very close by which flows right out to the Atlantic and a short run brings you to the Nearshore Reef

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/820.html
Marina Close by, a little expensive

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/82082.html?promoType=none
Cheaper, lots of parking, older home

Charleston
Really only found one listing- Marsh Front, Lots of Parking, Convenient to Remley's Point Boat Landing, which is on the mouth of the Wando River (which has the best Red-Fishing in the Charleston Area), almost directly underneath the Cooper River Bridge, so its a short trip to the Harbor / Offshore

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/85855.html?promoType=deal

Folly Beach
There's a Public Ramp right when you enter the town of Folly Beach, which puts in at Folly River and converges with the Stono River, good for inshore fishing, and only a few miles downriver you're in the Atlantic - a short run from here puts you on some healthy Artificial Reefs that I've dived on - saw plenty of fishes.

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/64858.html?promoType=none
This is on the beach, and parking tends to be easy to find in Folly

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/12249.html?promoType=none
Plenty of parking, cheaper

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/61916.html?promoType=none
Nice, Cheap, not sure about parking

Let me know what you guys think.

This one is within walking distance of the Marina, and has some very nice accomodations

$999 for 4 nights, and even comes with a Jacuzzi for Lewis and Scott  :pl:

We never tried the fancy camping down here - always stay on our boats.  You guys all have center consoles so no other option I guess.  Plus I guess the admirals like it that way - mine won't even come with me - "I'm not sitting around talking about boats for 2 days" - sometimes this is a good thing I guess

Ok guys, it's coming down to the wire here...

We need to get an accurate headcount of anyone that's interested in staying at a house here in SC, and if so, are you bringing your boat?  If you're coming, or even thinking about coming, please say so now.

I have no problem checking out a potential rendezvous, but I need some hard numbers soon...

Thanks guys  :salut:

What about you and Paige? Are you guys in for staying at the house?

Come on Fitz, it ain't that far!   Straight up 95. I really want to see your 22-2 and compare it to Slipaway.

Yes, that's quite plausible.

I really like looking at that picture too. I have determined one of two things:

A. There is a jumbo flesh-colored growth on her right shoulder. In order to remove it, she will need to see a good sturgeon.

or...

B. The nice young man to her right has an unfortunate physical abnormality.  Where his hand should be, there is a huge mitt with five to six miniature digits. But hey, he seems happy, we all can't look like Brad Pit.

We sure could use a good photographer at the Octoberfest Reunion. Whoever took that picture  could you consider coming?

Thanks!

Fun was fun...but now its time to address the matter at hand.

This is how we began:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7081&start=0 (http://www.classicaquasport.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7081&start=0)

And specifically per the first post "several folks have suggested moving it to the Charleston area this year".

Which is great. So now its time for the "several folks who have suggested" to throw your hat in the ring. Speak out, commit...and please attend.

The vote was seven for Charleston...John and Jessie make two...we'd like the five others who voted for Charleston to attend. We need to rent a place...now. Jessie has done a great job, trying to find a suitable, nice waterfront home to rent for us.

Have PM'd those who am aware of....let's get it going. Jessie wants to book us a place...It's Labor Day upcoming, end of summer....we're looking six weeks out.

You guys who voted for Charleston...swing the bat for your hometown :thumright:

Come on guys!!!! It will be fun!!! And its not that far!!!!

Not to compare but only as a reference, Classic Mako had one guy haul all the way from Eastern North Carolina to Destin for their Funament in June. They had one guy haul from Nashville and two different guys from Texas!  I understand they have been doing these for a lot of years but to have 20 guys and their families take the time and show up from all over the SE is a pretty lofty goal to reach. If any of us take the time to do this again I think we will think about it a lot harder if nobody responds to this thread! So come on and let us know!!!!  Heck you don't have to bring your boat!!! You can ride with one of us. So what do we need to do to get a commitment?

Hell if nothing else I am going to restock the freezer and get to see some friends and their cool boats!

Title: Re: Southeast Aquasport Octoberfest!
Post by: MarshMarlowe196 on September 17, 2011, 10:09:38 AM
John is right.

By my figuring, we've got a hard number of 3 boats coming with their respective captains-

John's CCP
Lewis' 22-2
My 19-6

As I've mentioned before, The water gets real rough sometimes just out of the Jetties in Charleston Harbor.  We could put in near Folly, and the conditions would most likely be a tad better, but then you miss out on seeing all the Land(water)marks in Charleston Harbor.  If the 3 of us can decide on what type of fishing we want to do, that would help me put together an itinerary on the water.  I know a few guides that will help increase our chances with their valuable input.

I know John's got a trolling motor on his rig, as do I, so we could fish the Wando River for Reds and Trout, which is always promising, but that kind of leaves Lew at a disadvantage unless he mounts a trolly motor soon or just wants to anchor up.  There is a nearshore Reef just a few miles N-NW of the Jetties where I've caught all kinds sizely fish and Doormat size Flounder with simple bottom fishing rigs, but the weather will dictate whether that'd be a viable spot for me and Lew.  Leaving out from Folly Beach is a pretty good haul on the road from Charleston, and the closest reef is about 20 miles out... How confident are you guys with your engines?

Hey Scott (Mackeral Master [hey maybe that could be your new title]), what say you on fishing?  I'm nowhere close to your skills and wisdom when it comes to Kings, but we do have King tournaments here sometimes, and I hear they can be caught just inside the Harbor...

Let me know what you think  :thumright:     :silent:    :D ????
Title: Re: Southeast Aquasport Octoberfest!
Post by: gran398 on September 17, 2011, 11:17:57 AM
Jess, good ideas. I'm up for anything the rest of you guys would like to do. I've fished for reds, specs, and flounder too, and have right much tackle for same. And it certainly is easier to prep for those than a KM trip.

If ya'll (the captains) decide what to go for, I'll bring all the tackle I have. Weatherwise...we need a nice, light-wind day for king fishing. Otherwise it's a bear, a chore...and possibly queasy fisherfolk. The backwater fishing is not nearly as weather dependant.

Regardless...we'll have a blast. Looking forward to seeing you guys, and our new friends too!

Edit PS:

Hey Lew, didn't you have a brand new Great White you were gonna put on the 19-6? tx

Well shipmates, I wasn't going to bring my boat, but was seriously considering flying up, but today received a call from one of my regular business customers, and they want a big party on the 15th, so I will be doing a BBQ catering.  The $$ is too good to pass up, plus they are a twice a year regular customer.  Maybe the next....

Been there done that - it may seem that we live close to each other down here but it's very hard to get people out of their backyard.  When I go to Tampa, I get people from Tampa, when I go south I get people from the south.  If I go farther south....
I went through the frustration mode and still do a little, but finally just gave up and announce a gathering, throw up a poll and if at the end Dave and I are the only ones there - so be it (sometimes I can't even count on him  :? ).
We are starting to get the diehards now with Scott and Doc. We have some regulars too depending on the location - in the Tampa area we have the regulars from there.  If they have to travel a little they will.
It is what it is.

October 15 is coming up and OK folks - heeeerrreee we go!  So the whole thang is going to come together around Folly Beach.     Folly is kinda cool - kind of an old-time beach town - not the high rise condo, speedo-wearing, loudmouth kind of beach.  It's more laid back and old-school cool.   :thumleft:

So we will find a nearby marina to launch on Saturday morning, October 15 - there may be a get-together Friday night - details to follow.  Hopefully the fish will be cooperative!   :fish:

Then we will all get together Saturday night at a house on Folly Beach for some great food and maybe a beverage or two, or three, or...    :drunken:  Directions to the house will be posted soon, so y'all start making your plans to be there!   :salut:  I think there is still at least one bedroom available in the house, so PM me, Scott, or Lewis if you need a place to stay.

Let us know if you can't bring your boat, but want to be there and get out on a boat.  I'm sure we can work out a ride.

See y'all there!

That's good news guys!

There's a nice boat landing on the Folly River that I'm sure will be more than accomodating.  You guys will see it (you have to cross a bridge over it) when you come into Folly Beach-

https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_details?p_id=348 (https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_details?p_id=348)

As I've mentioned, the Folly River runs out to the Stono, which will offer us some good inshore fishing, and its a short trip to the Atlantic from Folly River.  There's a nice reef to fish on only a few miles out, so we'll have some options and we should have some luck.  I'll talk to the guide that works with Pops to get some pointers.  Never hurts...

Looking forward to seeing you guys  :D  :D

This would be the reef closest to the Stono River inlet-  The "Lowcountry Angler's Reef"

It's "LCA" on the map.

Reef Buoy=
GPS-32 34.300/079 55.100

Reef consists of mostly rubble from various destroyed bridges and airport runways and a 50' houseboat.  You can mostly catch spadefish (bream on crack) around this reef using Jellyballs cut into thin strips as bait.  There should be plenty of jellyballs floating around on the way out if we decide to go offshore.

Hey, looks good. What you reckon, about 4 miles out? There should be some great flounder fishing there too.

The construction reminds me of that place we went to last year....Yaupon Reef.

Thanks Jess!

Went fishing in the creeks for about a half hour on Saturday before the Clemson game.  Caught these on artificial grub and finger mullet.  Fishing's getting pretty good here  :D

I honestly don't know how that water bottle got in there

We obviously weren't planning on catching fish, as you can see we had to store the fish with the beer.  Sure made that Miller Lite taste interesting  :pukel:

I saw those dead soldiers too

Trivia: flounder change color based on their habitat. The creek ones like this are always dark. An inlet/ocean one will be light tan. So without asking the fisherman, you can tell where they were caught... Or...you can amaze them by saying something like this, in your best Larry the Cable guy accent....

"So.....I reckon you was up Hushmouth Creek...right?"

I didn't know, but you got me curious, so I read about it here-

http://www.follybeachrealestate.org/history.html (http://www.follybeachrealestate.org/history.html)

Pretty interesting history, aside from the name.  According to the article, when the English first spotted Folly Island, it was "densely packed with trees and undergrowth", and "Folly" was the old English term for this.

I knew that Morris Island was originally called "Coffin Island" because so many of the casualties from the battles of the Civil War were buried there.  But, Folly Island was also referred to as "Coffin Island" or "Coffin Land", but the buried dead on this island was due to sickness (Cholera). Ships coming into the harbor would unload their sick on this island to avoid being quarantined before making their way to the harbor.  They would return days later, and pick up the sailors who hadn't yet died, but the ones that did die were buried right there on the beach.  Seems like an all around efficient system to me ...

So I guess we shouldn't go digging around in the yard when we are there? :pale:

This is a link to the house we are renting. Halfway between the ramp and the marina. For anyone wanting to leave their boat at the marina its $1.50 per foot per night. Hey Jessie is there a ramp fee at that ramp by the bridge?

Lew, thanks for the link! That place will get the job done :thumright:  And thanks again for your and Bridgette's effort to secure it.

Now...all we need is John to fix up a batch or twelve of those "Life of the Party" Margaritas :drunken:

I am going to go on Google Earth this afternoon and snoop around the place...see if I can find some fishing holes. Am also going to check out the channel markers, learn the channel to the inlet. And print everything up so all the captain's have copies. I'll number everything the same so we're "all on the same page"

Then I'll call some tackle shops down there and ask where they've been catching bait.

Have you guys thought any more about what we'd like to target?

Here's some maps of the area-

The "B" is the Beach House, "A" is the landing we'll use-
(http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss320/MarshMallowe196/FollyBeachPublicBoatLandingto414WIndianAveFollyBeachSC29439-GoogleMaps_1317495290186.jpg)

Folly River Bait & Tackle is nearby, so if we can't get some bait in a cast net (which I doubt will be a problem for Scott the cast-net master), we can always pick some up here-
(http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss320/MarshMallowe196/FollyRiverBaitTackleto414WIndianAveFollyBeachSC29439-GoogleMaps_1317495385768.jpg)

Fishing here is a lot like fishing in NC; pretty much the same tactics you're used to using there.  Catch bait when the water's low via a cast net-  Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet, and Shrimp will be your best bet for catching reds.  I've been having luck with all 3, with Live Shrimp seeming to produce more hook-ups than the others.  The best way to catch Flounder is a slow retrieve with an artificial red head grub or a jig a white bucktail

These colors of grub tails are working best, gray (smoke) and "root beer"

Simple Cheap stuff you can pick up at Wal-Mart.  Honestly, if you go to the high end bait shops like Haddrell's, they'll give you some secrets alright, but their secret will probably be "... you need to buy this $15 bag of Z-Man space age teflon coated polymer lures, and these $20 Titanium 18K Gold Plated Jig Heads if you want any real luck..."

Fishing here is pretty straightforward.  Fish for Reds and Flounder on the Outgoing Tide, throw against shell-banks and where small creeks are dumping out into bigger creeks, try for flounder on the flats with a slow retrieve, on the incoming tide you can have better luck fishing for trout either by trolling or by casting live minnows against the marsh grass as you work your way down with the current.  I'm pretty sure we got this

If the weather permits, I'd love to go offshore to the Lowcountry Anglers Reef.  Simple bottom rigs with shrimp, squid, or strips of jelly-balls will produce.  While bottom fishing, you can retrieve a Rapala type lure with another rod&reel if you want.

The best fishing to be had will be in the Wando River, and you'll notice that 90% of the threads on CharlestonFishing.com will be recent fishing trips in the Wando... and that's on the other side of Charleston in respect to where ya'll are staying.  Not to say we wont have luck in the Stono River, but you can bet your Aquasport we'd have better luck in the Wando River.  I'm honestly not sure why, but that's just how its always been here

Boys, remember how we get flounder down here on the flats.  Find a pothole or bare sandy bottom in the grass, throw to the edges, slow retrieve to bring them out from their ambush spots...pinched off half a shrimp works real good...

But then, you guys know this...

Thanks for the post Lew. That's all I need to see. They had a nice catch (if you scroll down...the entire forum did)... we can do just as well.

Creek fish are dark...inlet fish are light...they gave away their honey-holes by showing their catch. Going to the inlet creeks and creek mouths. Sand bottom.

Have been studying the Google Earth images.

Fried flounder guaranteed Saturday night, weather cooperating.

Gigging boat will be there...unless the forecast calls for pain.

He came home tonight to a big box on his front porch, addressed to his name, and  "Aquasport Octoberfest Reunion."

He has received support products from Starbrite.

A case of Startron...quart bottles of Sea-Safe Boat Wash Concentrate...and quart bottles of Non-Skid Deck Cleaner and Protectant.

Excellent... Lew says that those of us that would like samples...he'll see us there.

Looking forward to meeting the Charleston folk...see ya there. We're coming down/up/over  next week...so you guys that have said you'll be there (and thanks, we're looking forward to hanging out) please PM myself, Lew, Jessie, or CJ with your cell #'s. Thanks guys.

Pulled Gone Fission off the lift and out of Lake Norman today to get her ready for the trip to C-ton.  Interesting what you find when you have not had the boat on the trailer for a year or so.  Did some maintenance items, but the periodic rain kept me from getting her all cleaned up...

Hey, dirty boats still catch fish, right?   :thumleft:   So Team Gone Fission (or Team Nuk'em - take your pick) will be on the water slaying the fish on Saturday.  Got some super secret baits and lures for Stono River.  Fishing reports have been good for red drum and specks, seems like the King bite is off.  I'm up for some gator specks or monster reds!   :geek:

Look forward to seeing the "dedicated" group tomorrow night at the crib - and everyone else on Saturday!  It's gonna be fun!

I know one thing!! It is one heck of a lot closer to just drive to Charleston than all the way to Oak island. 5 hours towing at up to 75 on I-26 you can really cover some ground. Anyway we made it fine and now gran has shown up and we went and chowed down on some crab balls and fried shrimp and flounder and scallops and fried oysters and now I am stuffed and having another beer! So now we are sitting here looking out over the marsh with the almost full moon coming up and a GIANT line of thunderstorms on the way any time!
The wind is supposed to be 10 to 15 out of the west tomorrow but we are still going to try it out. Can you say spottail? Don't worry Jessie we might leave yall a couple! I think this is what you call "pre-tournament" fishing.

Everything he says is true. The dinner was spectacular, and there was a steel drum drum band with a bunch of Q tips waving their arms above their heads in unison after the bingo game.

There is a big full moon and a HUGE flood tide over the grass. We are undaunted however, and will fish tomorrow in preparation and anticipation of Saturday's main event.

The house is real nice, the sheets appear clean. Turning in shortly, been a long day.

Tomorrow night is Low Country Shrimp Boil party :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Good morning fellers,

We awoke to the sound of wind chimes. Sounds like a yuletide bell choir. 20-25 hard W.

Don't know how much effective fishing will occur today. We are going scouting/boat riding/chicken eating/beer quaffing nevertheless.

Lewis's wife Bridget has already had enough of the two us. I told her that I'll bet that she wasn't planning on "Lewis Squared."

Stay tuned to VHF 72.

Have a nice day :D

Guys, the population of Red Fish, and others, here locally has enjoyed a surge in numbers lately, and that's largely thanks to the efforts of the Coastal Conservation Association (C.C.A.) and the SCDNR.

I'm sure you guys have already checked on the regulations, but if not here they are-

Hope you guys tear em' up today! (That means you can keep 3...   )

Howdy boys, what a day.

We got geared up, put in early in the hard wind. Chose the ramp side so the wind would keep us pinned on the dock. Cranked up...Slipaway kept cutting off.

Kept cutting off. We messed and messed. Never would idle down. By this time, it was 1 PM.

Pulled it back out, got local info to a good mechanic. Went there, Friday afternoon....not good...our hopes were fading.

We went there....Lew and Briget stayed in the truck, I went in. The guy had a bunch of big dogs...Labs and a weimereiner.

Said man, that is the biggest weimereiner  I've ever seen...he said how much he loved that dog, then we petted it, threw the ball, etc

We talked dogs for five more minutes, then he finally asked what he could help me with.

Said we were from Georgia and NC, just trying to go fishing, we were broke down...he said....come on, pull it in, we'll fix it right now!

So...an hour later....he found the key switch was shorting out...80 bucks is all he charged...we're back! Thanks Duke's Marine, James Island, SC.

So, we sea-trialed her, good news, we're good to go for tomorrow. What a blessing it happened today.

Dinner tonight was great, and GREAT folks!  Four boats meet at the ramp tomorrow at 9 am for a great day, good forecast.

Thanks to all....will report tomorrow :thumleft:

I had that happen twice in a few years on the 170.  My ignition switch is on the slanted part of my console. Seems if I didn't leave the key with the built-in cover in the ignition switch all the time, the switch would fill up with water and eventually short out. Mine always shorted out when I was 6 or 7 miles from the dock

We made it back home safely and we definitely had a great time with some old and new friends!

sc170nfl emailed me some pics and some of these are off my phone. I think you will get the idea.
Before anybody else mentions it , Bridget and I fished hard on Sat until about 1 then someone had to go to the ladies room. Sometimes you make a decision that you look back on and go "dadgum we were lucky". We were up fishing a point where Folly creek runs into the Stono river. The tide started running hard and I decided to take Bridget back to the marina just inside the inlet where the Folly river dumps into the Stono. Got up to the dock and finally got tied off as the current was ripping, After I shut the motor off I decide to check the prop as we had run aground a couple of times up in the creeks that morning. I raise the motor and start to turn it towards the dock so I could see it better. Uh Oh! The steering locked up and at the same time the old worm gear inside the helm breaks. NO STEERING! If this had happened 5 minutes earlier we would have been in the middle of the river in 35 feet of water getting dragged offshore. The big guy upstairs was really looking out for Bridget and myself.
Anyway we still had a great time. And I owe you Capt John for the tow and all of you guys for all the help at the ramp.

The view out the back of the house looking out over the marshes.

Wow - what a great weekend!  We can't thank Lewis and Briget enough - they put on amazing dinners on Friday and Saturday.  And the grits on Saturday morning were something beyond compare.  Our Social Director lived up to his title and he and his sweetie pulled out the stops to make this an incredible get-together.  We had a great time on Friday and the weather was beautiful on Saturday, with Aquasports from four states there:

First we had to catch some bait - hey, don't these boats look alike?

Then off to fish:

And it would not be a Aquasport reunion if we did not have one on a line:

Guys, what a great weekend!

First and foremost....Lewis and Bridget did a TERRIFIC job in hosting the weekend. We rented a beautiful home, the accommodations and views were nothing short of deluxe. Bridget, you and the ladies had every meal down pat, like clockwork. Thanks to you and Lew for a magnificent and memorable weekend :thumright:

Saturday fishing: We were all stoked. Lewis made some friends Friday night in the neighborhood :thumright: They were buzzing around him like flies on...well, they were buzzing around him like flies. One was a child psychiatrist who was looking for a mood-change and going for his captain's/guide license. He reviewed our google earth images as supplied by the guide from here...and techniques for reds/trout...he concurred, and offered additional local knowledge...we're ready.

So all four classics head out Sat am...looking good. We purchase bait first-off, but we're going to net bigger bait. We knew where to go. But the big full moon flood tide has the flats overloaded with water....we catch a few baits...but time to go fission

As we're running to the inlet...we notice we hit a portion of the Folly River that's 55 feet deep....saw that all day with the convergence of the Folly, Stono, and Kiawah Rivers. Really deep water in places...sometimes 50 feet from the hill.

What an absolutely gorgeous place.

So...although the wind is blowing a steady 15....it is a beautiful morning. We all split up...keep in touch on 72. All 4 boats fish hard...fish well...at the end of the day....total skunk. No fish were caught. We all saw reds rolling...but no takers.

Was ready to post and saw the pop-ups...gonna go ahead and post-up anyhow...so can review you guys previous posts :thumright:

What a GREAT weekend!

I didn't deserve the award...It was presented to me, post-humorously

Since there were no fish caught..they all felt sorry for me, since I was the only one who had to sleep alone. So they gave me the award.

It was a lovely miniature Hawaiian Hula Doll. I brought it home, it is presently sitting on the mantle. Bridget instructed me to make an addition to the trophy and bring it back next year.

Will do....and great work Bridget :thumright:

When we got to the ramp everybody showed up at about the same time. As we are all getting ready to launch this guy pulls up in an old pickup and looks up at me in the boat and says "What is going on with all these old Aquasports?". We explained about the website and the gathering and then he says "Wow, how cool is this!" That is the kind of thing that just makes your day. He had seen two of the boats at Crosby's bait shop and followed them to the ramp just to check them out.

And speaking of "Slipaway"...Jess, you're on the money. Built that up to our Social Director all weekend. Ignore the mechanical setbacks...that is a clean, good-looking Aquasport. Very unique...limited production run.  Structurally sound, unusual for a hull that age. Transom good for another ten years minimum.  Lew said it had been dry-stacked most of her life.

SWEET ride :thumright:

I walked into the house on Folly meeting the folks there in person for the fist time. What immediately struck me was that no one looked the way I expected. It's great to actually see on line people in person. Then I noticed that the house had been decorated, and whoever did it really knocked themselves out. Everything was fishy and created a real party atmosphere. The food that was ready had been laid out to be most appetizing and it worked. I was getting hungry just looking. Bridget was busily preparing the main courses in the kitchen and obviously had things well in hand.

The house couldn't have been better for the purpose. The open great room and kitchen combo really made for a spacious yet cozy atmosphere, and all the bedrooms leading into the main room was an efficient use of space. The only drawback was parking but that's Folly Beach for you.

The evening was great with many interesting conversations with some really nice people. Everyone was more than anxious to make me and my wife both feel welcome. One conversation stood out as particularly interesting though with Bridget. She asked pointed questions regarding fuel and fuel additives, asked what if anything could restore fuel, what could get the water out, and what could protect the fuel the best. We even discussed octane and how it relates to performance and engine types. There's a lot more to that lady than a pretty face and a good cook. Lewis, you are a lucky man buddy.

Nothing could beat the next day though when I got a long overdue opportunity to spend the day with one of my favorite fishing buddies, Jessie, and of course Jessie's girl. Guys, eat your heart out, Paige is a true pleasure to be around. She baits her own hook too.  We all spent a lot of time talking about the event and how well it turned out. I wondered to him how we could expand on this type event with other owners. Bottom line we all came to the conclusion, what made this particular event the enjoyable success it was had nothing to do with the boats, it was all about the people in them. Those beautiful old Aquasports wer simply the vehicles that brought us all together.

Thanks,

Those beautiful old Aquasports wer simply the vehicles that brought us all together.

Thanks,

Amen, Bro!   :salut:

Thanks,
I second that

Ya know, some of us knuckle-dragger boat guys are not so great in the spelling department!

However, I now have it confirmed - the name of our fine hostess and food wizard is Bridget!

And again, kudos and thanks to Bridget and Lewis for all they did to make the weekend come together!   :thumleft:

I knew that

Proof positive that multitudinous amounts of tequila are good for you

But again, and most importantly...Bridget, you are superb, and thank you again for the beautiful decorations, great meals, and terrific weekend.

Boatdood...good stuff, you hit the nail on the head :salut:
