By the way, I only get 42 on my 200 from a Johnson 150hp.  I do have a hydrofoil which is slowing me down some (engine is mounted slightly too low).

That motor weighs 100 lb more than the E-Tec 175

Has anyone seen the e-tec infomercial?  They had a comparison between a Yamaha 225 4 stroke and a 225 e-tec.  They put both on a a boat Angler brand (never heard of) offshore boat.  They didn't say what length but judging by the video I would say it was 24-26'.

They put the Yammy down and the e-tec up - Yammy would not get boat on plane and only did about 13mph per GPS.  Put e-tec down and Yammy up - boat got out of the hole quick and ran about 30mph per GPS.  I realize that these test are biased but impressive nonetheless.

My opinion on the topic is that 150 on a 222 should be good enough power if your main goal is to do some safe fishing.  If you want to be the fastest 222 on the water then you probably need more power.

That's just my 2 cents.

your two cents is well said.  Perhaps if you have to do 55mph to out run a thunderstorm, you waited too long to pick up anchor. :D

My 222 CCP with a T-Top and big windshield has a top end of 43 on the GPS. It is powered with a 1999 225 hp Suzuki 2 stroke. Crusing is very comfortable at 30 to 35 mph. I average just under 2 mpg.

I seriously doubt that the 225 yami was propped correctly.  It would have put that 25' boat on plane no problem.  I saw the infomercial and that was my first thought.
