System Check Help on 97 215 DC

My system check is no longer working. For a while I was able to seat the plug tightly and get the light check on start up with no beeps. I replaced the guage, but no luck. It now does not work at all. I found a schematic online that shows the wire colors and what the go to. Question is how to I trouble shoot the guage with my multimeter and could corrosion/ lack of power from the key switch be my problem? Thanks in advance.
