20' Osprey weight
« on: September 08, 2010, 03:15:43 PM »
Hi everyone.......Does anyone know the weight of a "dry" 1986 20' Osprey?
I am  thinking of shipping, rather than towing my Osprey across the Gulfstream to Abaco Bahamas in November. It would be no problem to tow behind my Hatteras but if the weather is bad it might be a problem for the center console. So anyway the shipping company needs the weight of the boat ro give me a quote so I can figure out if it is worth my while.
Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate the info and the link. I completely refurbished this Osprey, filled all the old holes,a little glass work here and there, new wiring,T-top,leaning post, windshield,Awlgrip and went through the engine. After putting 64 hours on it so far this summer in some pretty good seas between Montauk and Block Island,I'm confident she is enough boat to keep in Abaco as our main inter-island transportation.

It took me a while to find them as they were on my wife's computer, but here are a few photos of GOOMBAY after her refit from stem to stern. When I bought her she was a flounder pounder with a hundred holes and stress cracks in her her from the console to the gunnels, but after a bit of work she came out OK.I had every intention to scrap the inline 6 Merc, but after seeing how well it pushed the boat and how good the fuel economy is I decided to rebuild it.So far after 67 hours it runs very sweet.

Thanks guys I appreciate it.I have really come to like this little boat.It makes the Mako 17,which the Osprey replaced really seem like a toy.My previous Aquasport was a 1984 222-ccp which I loved and was a lot more boat but it was expensive to push with the twin 115's and that deep-V.With gas at $5.41 a gallon in Abaco this boat seems to be a good compromise of size, speed and especially fuel economy.
