Any of you zuke owner have parts issues? I only ask because my guide buddy on Captiva just waited 8 weeks for a part for his 175 zuke that kept him off the water, luckily he borrowed a mutal friends spare boat.

Here is my first report on the new Mercury 150 4 stroke I just put on my 1977 FF 222. It replaces a 1997 Mariner 175 EFI. The Mariner would do 43.5 mph at 5100 and the new 150 does 40mph at 4800 with the same prop, which is a Mercury 3 blade 14 by 19. I plan to re-pitch the prop to 17 in. when I pull the boat in April.
She comes out of the hole just fine by my standard. The rigger from Walker Marine on Marco says this is his first 4 stroke 150 and was very impressed by the way it pulled out of the hole even with the overpitched prop.
I could not be happier with this repower so far!

The boat will be better out of the hole with the over pitched prop, its going to have a worse hole shot but a higher top end if you decrease the pitch.  Check with Ken at prop gods if your really looking to dial in your new motor.  They have prop testing services for an hourly rate or you can just call and get their advice. Either way, worth the call before you drop cash on  a prop.

I believe you have that backwards. A decrease in pitch will give you a better hole shot and lower top end.

King fisher, you end up with a new motor yet? If not, I throw the vote in for a 200. In fact, I think if I was going to re power, I want a 225 opti. When I bought this boat, I was actually thinking of ditching the Johnson and getting one. However, the boat pulls hard, and will hit 47mph on GPS in good conditions. It's cruise just up on plane is right around 28mph. That's about 3250rpm. It's actually getting decent fuel economy too, seems to be around 2.5 mpg. I'm happy. I'm a "more power is always better" though guy. I blasted by a dude on a jetski the first time me and the wife had it out. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing he was WOT. I didn't pass him fast much, but if he was topped out around low 40's it would be about right.

I'm not sure your financial situation, but I know if it was me, as soon as I got the motor I would be disappointed for whatever reason and kicking myself for not dropping another grand or so for another 5mph.

bripley, I had a feeling that would be a good fit.  The big question is what is your best cruise speed/rpm's/fuel burn?  Glad to hear you are happy with the repower.

I like to cruise at about 20-25 mph. With the current prop I am at 34 mph at 4,000 rpm, 24.5 at 3,000, so about 3,000 is my best cruise. With the prop repitched to 17" I suppose that would be about 3,300-3,400 at 25 mph.
I don't have a fuel flow meter. Where is the best place to get that?

A mercury smartcraft gauge will give you all that gph, mpg info and more
The smaller the prop the better the hole shot

Barry, I have no idea on the fuel flow meters.  I'm sure Mercury makes them and then there is Flowscan.  As you may have seen on this site, I am in the process of setting up a 78 22 Family Fisherman modified V with a 96 Yamaha 200 Saltwater Series (carb) motor.  To be honest, I am afraid of what it will burn for fuel but I don't have a choice, financially, it's what I've got to work with.  I plan on getting it on a plane and backing off the throttle until I'm cruising around 20-24 then hoping for reasonably good numbers.  The name of the game these days is an "affordable" cruise speed.  I really don't care about top end.

Bad explanation on my part.  Higher pitch = lower number, lower pitch= higher number.   Was trying to keep it simple so he would understand that his boat will have a worse hole shot with the prop change he had planned.

My planned change from 19" pitch to 17" pitch will result in higher rpm at a given speed and more power out of the hole.
