1981 196 Osprey wiring diagram

(1/1)

hughb:
We have a 1981 196 Osprey I’m wanting to add a 6” access hatch in the starboard gunwale and drop a cleat just aft of the fuel inlet and do the same directly across on the port side. The wire from the running lights runs down the starboard side of the boat. My question is: does any wiring run down the port side. Thanks. Thought I’d ask you guys before I screw the pooch!

RickK:

Based on the '80 catalog we have the trough was still a part of the liner. That's why the front nav light and aft all-around light wiring (and anything from the console) is on the starboard side.  The front nav light wiring on my '71 was fiberglassed to the underside of the starboard gunwale top underside. Had a little 1" strip of wet glass over it. Not sure how they did it in '81 but since the liner was outsourced, bet it was the same.
As you start mounting cleats, make sure you spray the threads with WD so they don't knurl on you.

Thank you for the quick reply. I’m still trying to figure out how to navigate the site. For some reason it looks like I only got part of what you sent, as your response begins in the middle of a sentence. That’s okay, I appreciate your quick response. I don’t think I’ll have much of a problem doing what I need to do. Thanks again, H

Capt. Bob:
A little easier to understand.

Anyone have a preference concerning battery chargers? I've gotten two off of Amazon, a Schumacher 6\12 and a Fumosi 12\24, both with issues. it's time to spend some real money. I have 4 AGM batteries, two sets, both in series., so I really need a 24 Volt. Any recommendations? I'm heading to NAPA to get one of their.....imports, thanks!
