Radome Installation on a not so average T-Top...
« on: January 14, 2012, 05:46:44 PM »
A lot of T-tops are set up, via welded on plates to accept a Radome.  A lot aren't.  But the owner wants a radar anyway.  So, sometimes you have to do a little thinking.

How I did the Radome on the Cape Horn...

Sorry for my card in my camera being full, I'll take a vid later on how quick the radar comes up, and the overlay function on the charts.  Todays Radars are a WHOLE lot easier than they used to be...

You get a gold star if you get the movie and context of that line.

In the Rocky IV movie, when the main character (Rocky Balboa) decides to avenge the death of his friend (Apollo Creed) he decided to go up against the most technologically advanced fighter for his day, Ivan Drago. Drago was an oversized, over estimated, over confident, arrogant and relatively unknown boxer. Once the people thought they knew Drago, they believed he couldn’t be beat and that going toe-to-to with that big, bad boy from Communist Russia was certain death.

But as Rocky got into the ring, facing nearly insurmountable odds, he hung tough and slugged it out with the big guy.

And then, at a moment when it all seemed so lost; so hopeless so utterly futile, Rocky landed a blow on the character, Drago. And cut him.

It was a turning point in the fight. Rocky, the representative of America and all of its hopes and dreams had actually done some damage to what was thought of as a machine and not a human. Rocky cut him.

Rocky’s assistant, Duke, realizing the momentous nature of what just happened, said to the underdog, Rocky: “You see? You see? He’s not a machine, he’s a man, he’s a man.”

Bravo!!!!

Pete, that was perfect.
Your breakdown has set the stage for another You Tube "round" and we'll have to wait and see if Bob really is the Rocky Balboa of rigging.

You guys crack me up!  If it was a nicer evening, I'd go out and turn that b!tch on right now!!!

Nah, just kidding!  While I like the performance of the Lowrance and Simrad units, their manuals are basically pieces of crap.  In theory, one should not need a computer nor a phone to navigate through the screens and menus to get the units to display what you want them to, and also how to get them to do that.  And their CS departments agree with me, but, as they have told me, it's the engineers who write the manuals.

Now if it were my boat, I can guaranty you I would know that Lowrance system like the back of my hand.  But my job is to make sure everything is functioning properly, that every device in the network is properly interfaced and the network recognizes each device, that the installation is done properly, etc.  I'll let Stan deal with the "nuances" when puts the boat back in use.  But tomorrow?  I'll do another vid...
