170 Osprey Flooring questions bow locker area (1985)
« on: March 07, 2009, 11:03:47 AM »
I have been working on fixing up this little beauty...
Next step is to fix the front locker area.
There are three lockers in the bow floor; left, center, right
The doors to the lockers screw down into two "beams" around the middle locker.
It seems the previous owner may have dropped something on the left beam as it is cracked and feels weak.  One of the sets of screws holding a locker door won't stay in either.

My question is, is/was there wood in those beams, or is it solid fiberglass?
My proposed solution:
  * Cut a inspection port in the side of the left locker facing the center beam
  * Use Structural Fiberglass mesh and wet and push it up with a board in the crack of the beam
  * Use filler epoxy to fill in the cracks and holes on the topside of the beam
  * Sand the beam to make it smooth
  * Re-drill the holes for the screws, and using the inspection port, try to get a nut on the other side instead of just a screw.

Any comments or suggestions??  PLEASE??
Hehe, I'm still very knew at this, but since it's an older boat, I'm not too scared now to try things myself.
If there's a better way, or I'm wasting my time, please let me know!

I think the casting deck is all glass - no wood in any of that area. I'd post some pix so we can see the damage before we advise.
