I think this boat is a 1988 based on the 2 tone hull color and deck color.  My 1988 looked almost identical.

yeahhhhhhh my dad and I were also questioning the year. I bought the boat from my girlfriends dad and he insists its a 78 but I have yet to get over to his house and sign the papers over and whatnot...

You can tell the year from the HIN - Hull Identification Number.  The codes are described at the following website:

1987.

went and picked up the title today. The original owner bought it out the door for $9475 in 1987 with a 85 suzuki. I even have the original brochure for all the models in 87' lol the 17 is described as a 'Bass hunting machine' LOL

anyways got all the non-skid sanded off.

I dont know if I need to grind these out and fill or just roll a coat of gelcoat over problem areas in addition to the final coat of gelcoat

update. boat is at my dads friends shop and hes going to help me out getting it done. decided on drilling holes in the transom, filling it with filler epoxy, and glassing it back over. and then make a metal bracket to fit where the motor will be attatched.

bluedyed and sanded the whole deck and gunnels with 80 grit.

should be molding a new console this weekend hopefully and my leaning post should be here tomorrow.

slowly but surely

because it is soft to the touch in a 10 by 10 square, so we have been trying to dry it out and then we are going to put in a bunch of filler epoxy through the holes to stiffen it up. call it a half ass fix, but it should last for a few years.

AB can you give me dimension of the fuel tank? Is it a belly tank or flat bottom? I have the same year model that the owner before removed and does not have anymore!

i forgot to check today but I can sometime monday probably.

Got my leaning post in the mail and am VERY happy with it, also found a decent console to use in my buddys shop.

Deck and gunnels are ready for primer, should spray on monday or tuesday.
