Kicker size for a 19-6

(1/1)

sturgeon:
I have a line on a 5 hp tohatsu for a great price as a kicker.  Is this enough to move this boat at hull speed? :?:

JimCt:
A 6 on my 170 pushed it at 4.5 knots.  Bigger boat & smaller engine you might squeeze out 3 kts.  I'd go for something bigger.  Make sure it's a long shaft.

John Jones:
I know, opinions are like ***holes but mine is that I had rather pay SeaTow $100/year rather than mess with a kicker that will never run when you need it to, not to mention the extra weight on a cut out transom.  I already got my money's worth this spring when I had a fuel problem (some bald headed old fart forgot to fill the tank   )  I had to pay for the gas and oil but that's it.  We were back fishing in 45 minutes.

My neighbor had a 9hp on an old 24' T-Craft.  It would not move it against a moderate wind (when it would run).
