Oh and you know what I think you are right about it not being 222 I think it says 223 or something like that I forgot, my brother knows more details I just know it is a flat back. I'm here to just soak up as much knowledge as I can so I can rebuild this bad boy I'm no pro yet so I will be asking lots of questions lol!

The first picture is just the outter transom to show the hull. http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a62 ... d581ed.jpg.  The second is where I need some imput this is back by the transom where the bilge pump used to be and this is what I have been calling the "liner" and I really just wanted to know if people remove it or if they redo it. As you can see through the hole there is two walls the outside white wall and about a inch later it looks to be the real haul. I have seen people sand it down from there but mine looks like it can easily be pulled out? Yes, you definitely have a flatback!

What you are asking about IMHO is the inner fiberglass portion of the transom?

Most folks leave the outer portion, and cut off this inner portion with a skilsaw...then remove the plywood. This keeps the hull shape intact.

Well if you look at this picture you can see it alittle better because I already got out most of the transom, you can tell alot better where it is here and it just looks like it would come undone all the way to the front of the boat? http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a62 ... 3ff7c6.jpg

This is a good picture here of what I mean by it detatching if I undo the cap. It could be from my brother making the cuts too far up? Or maybe from cutting into the cap, he figured he could cut alittle out of the cap to redo the transom but maybe he went too far? Wow, that definitely is a liner of sorts...you're right. Never seen one like that, pretty cool!


Heck yea, pull it out. Then when you're finishing up, glue it back in....that's gonna add a lot of strength to your hull sides.

Quick update on my progress... Today I will FINALLY have the transom wood out and I'll be ready to grind the transom down. It took me two weeks working on it every afternoon when it's not so hot out but I must say for anyone that has this job please use a air chisel, I did mine all by hammer and chisel and it's a real bit@& lol my hands are all tore up and I think I broke my back but hell with it, it was all worth it! I'll post a picture when I have it grinded up and ready.

A question about the cap

My cap looks to be on there pretty good and alot of screws are stripped so I was wondering if the best idea was to grind the screws out? What did everyone use to get theirs off? I'm open to anything, my brother and I could only unscrew about half of the screws on there so far.

Take a cutoff wheel or cold chisel to it.

Make sure you take some measurements and build some bracing before you remove the cap.  The hull will probably want to distort when the cap is removed.

My flat back had a liner in the bow between the casting deck and the cap
I removed it as I raised the floor and made casting deck smaller
