My wife Maggie
« on: October 30, 2012, 10:33:46 PM »
Yesterday mid day, while I was out doing errands, my wife Maggie went to go to the bathroom.  She slipped a bit going over the threshold, and the bracing movement she did to right herself with her right leg...broke her hip.  When I got home, she had made it to the lazyboy, in pain but not bad (she has been dealing with sciatica).  We dealt with it through meds in the afternoon and evening, but it was getting worse...worse to the point where I couldn't transport her to the ER by car.  Called the EMTs, she went to the hospital via ambulance.

When I got home at 0600 this morn, they had told us that the break would be repaired surgically this morning.  I got a little sleep, called around 10:30, talked to her daughter, went to see her, they were scheduling her for more CAT scans.  OK.  Went home to take care of things, got back this eve at 6 to walk into a discussion with her and one of the doctors.  Some things about her pelvic bone they didn't like.  In particular, some previous fractures and some small "holes" in the bone structure.  The fractures most likely came from her chemotherapy when she went through breast cancer 15-16 years ago, but the holes may have come from that cancer...or a new one.

So tomorrow they are going to scan her and test her to death...well, not quite.  If all checks out, she'll have hip replacement surgery Thursday morning.  Then, we will have a road to recovery that's not easy, but, seeing as I work out of the house, I'll be there for whatever she needs.  So, we'll find out some things tomorrow.  She smokes, so they have her on a nicoderm patch which REALLY helps (may even make her quit!), and so far is in good spirits.  At least tomorrow's day of testing/scanning will fill her day...

So I'm gonna be a little less visable on here and on the AS Boat club, but the football pool is taken care of (no worries there!), I just wanted you guys to know what's going on...

SB, I hope everything works out well and swiftly for Maggie and you. Tell her she has more people thinking of her then she'll ever imagine.
