I'm about to buy a 17' Osprey
« on: April 08, 2005, 07:24:16 AM »
I've got a few questions to ask before I buy this boat.  It is a 90', the owner told me that it was built at Hialeah.  I thought they were bought out by genmar before that, can anyone verify this?  I do have some knowledge of what to look for (problems) before I buy a boat, but I'm no expert.  Thanks for any insight you can give me!

The VIN Number on the transom of my 1983 CCP ends in the letters "HI".

Check your VIN it may indicate where the boat was built.

Good luck! A 1990 Aquasport is still a young girl!

Did you check out this  one
Sounds like a twin to what you're looking at.

That's funny, because that's the boat.   John is sending me pics of the boat, and hopefully I will drive down on Thursday to pick it up.  It sounds like a nice boat that has been well maintained...

Well, I bought the boat last week and couldn't be happier.  Hopefully she'll catch some fish this weekend...

Looks like a nice boat and didn't sound like a bad price either.  Congrats.

The logo and stripes look like a Hialeah built boat.

A little off topic:
I was looking at the layout of the registration decals on your new boat, I have a friend who recently got a ticket for not having 3" between FL and the rest of the numbers/characters.  Don't know if it was the wrong time of the month or what.....  probably not a big deal.

I have an '89 170 with Mariner (Merc) 115 4-cyl from '96
If the basic engine is same from 90 to 96 then you are in luck.
This is a great engine & still logging 150+ hrs a year for me.  I Bought the rig in 98 & very few problems.
Very good on gas, as it runs on 2-cylinders when below 2100 rpm's.
Will run a little bit like a Harley engine until it gets up over 2100 & the it takes off.
Have gotten it up to 42MPH on a cold day with slight ripple on the water.
It is a bit heavy in the back, so I moved the console forward 11" and the leaning post also.  Much better balanced & loads of room in the back.

I think you'll be very happy with that combo.
Good luck.

Hey fly, have you seen this thread.  Step up and join the 170 clan, we're trying to see how many there are of 'us' here.
