Drilling holes for Gil bracket 222FF rebuild
« on: June 29, 2016, 07:36:59 AM »
Has anyone mounted an original Gil bracket on a 222FF hull? I am kind of afraid to start drilling holes after all the trouble of completely rebuilding the whole stern. The bracket is an older Gil model and in pretty good shape....Motor is a 20 in. shaft...like to use different motor but this old V4 johnson has to work for now.....

The word "gil" in Gil bracket is often misused as many people use the term to describe any bracket. Do you have a pic of the bracket?  First you need to find the center y axis on the transom, then based on the shaft length of the motor the mounting height.  Then make a cardboard template of the bracket and the mounting holes. Also, I recommend you reconsider that 20" shaft and convert to a 25" shaft.

I concur on the 25" shaft.  The FFF is a CCP Hull so will need the 25" shaft.  I can also tell you a V4 is gonna have a hard time pushing that 222 Deep Vee.  I have a 225 Ocean runner that would be a perfect match for that hull.
