Bennett Trim Tab Part Number on Osprey 250
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:35:17 PM »
One of my trim tab's actuators... umm... how do i say this... fell off??? lol.  it's gone!   my starboard trim tab is just dangling in the wind!

that made for an interesting time on Sunday with the wife's cousins.. i had both tabs down and i guess when the actuator came off, all the fluid went with it and i couldn't put the port tab back up so we had a serious "gangster lean" going on.  had to compensate by trimming the port motor down and the starboard motor up and having one extra person stand to my left.

so.. on to my question.. i have no idea what i need to order.  it appears that bottom half of my actuator seperated and vanished into the abyss.  im guessing they dont sell half-actuators and i need to order at least the whole actuator (~$70ish???)

anyone know what the part number is for a 2000/1 Osprey 250 Bennett trim tab actuator?

gracias..

PM Tabman, he'll get you squared away... :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Tom checks all the forums daily, especially paying attention to his PMs.  But he's moved backed down here to FL with all the rest of the cool guys, so he's been busy...

@81walkaround, is the gangsta lean not cool in your area??  lol

I have a 1987 250 Osprey and needed the trim tab motor when I acquired the boat.  Tabman stepped in and put me in touch with the right people at Bennett and within a few days they sent me the new motor in exchange for the old for nothing... he is amazingly helpful.

Good luck, and how about a pic of your boat - I would love to see it!

I'm all about the gangster lean!  lol

some of the girls on my boat were not feeling it... my wife thinks any single noise the boat makes or if one drop of water comes over the bow, we're either sinking or i'm doing something totally wrong! lol

pic of the boat?  sure!!  as they say in my neighborhood.. EMPINGADO!

Good thing she wasnt with me this past Monday... I had waves breaking over the bow on a regular basis - one of the roughest days I have had. :shaking2:

Your boat is beautiful... wish mine was that clean!  Good luck with the tabs.

81WA,

Is the part that attaches to the transom still there? Any way you can post or send me a picture of the missing one and the one that is still there?

81 WA,

OK, you lost the piston shaft.  I see the bunk appears to be right under the Trim Tab. Will the Trim Tab hit the bunk if it is in the down position?  If so, I think it might be what lead to the failure.

The good news is that the bottom half of the actuator can be replaced without taking the top part off the transom.

Send me your name address and phone number in a PM and I will send you the parts and instructions to fix this, you just have to send us the old parts back after you swap them out and there will be no charge.  This is a little beyond our 5 year warranty :) so don't spread it around, OK?

If the Trim Tab can hit the bunk, I would advise you to install and Auto Tab Retractor that raises them when you switch the ignition off.

Tabman,

Thank you!!!

I had to place the boat on the trailer a little sideways because since all the fluid leaked out, i can't retract the port tab (its currently extended).  So, the boat is sitting a little crooked right now.  The tab isnt usually that close to the bunk.

Although the way the boat normally sits, I don't think I ever let it sit on the bunk extended, I won't rule that out as a possibility, and I agree with your assessment that it could have been a contributing factor at some point if it made contact/rested on the bunk like that.

I'll PM you my info for the repair (thank you again!!!).

Maybe it's time I look into the auto-retract feature?

Can you also tell me what i need to buy to install the auto-retract feature (if its even possible)?
