Discovery! New 19-6 Aquasport!
« on: July 16, 2011, 02:18:51 PM »
Well, this is gonna sound far-fetched. But here goes.

Having the 22-2 rebuilt here in town by a manufacturer, Seamark Boats. Yesterday an old gent who is long retired from the boat-building industry was by their place. His name is Warren Wilkerson. He worked for several manufacturers over the course of his career.

He saw the 22-2 being rebuilt and told the owner..."Hey, that's an Aquasport...you have a smaller mold of it right here."

He states that Aquasport sold a 19-6 mold to Shamrock Boats. Shamrock later sold it to Privateer Boats in NC. Then Privateer sold it to Seamark, who produce it now.

Here is a pic of a 20 Shamrock. Uncertain which mold was used on this early model:

Whether any of this is true, we'll never know. But neat stuff regardless.  Was fun to research...and hey...kinda exciting!

Not so much a 19-6 but sure as heck more like a 19-1. You never know. A transom pic would tell the story. You know the 19-1 had that funky little pad slight radiused deadrise like none other. Heck, the Shamrock pic looks like the same bow rail that AS used in the 60's. Pretty cool.

The Shamrock is a different hull, similar to the Aquasport, but with a full keel that is glass filled to prevent damage to the running gear.  The front is similar to a pre-72 Aqua, but it has a semi-V deadrise like later models, and, once again, has that full keel.  The Shamrock WAC looks just like the Aquasport above the waterline, but again has the Shamrock hull underneath.

Don't know about Seamark, but I doubt if Coburn would have sold the mold for the 19-1 or 22-2.  However, there were a few builders that made molds of Aquasports and ran copies of them in the 60s and 70s.  Usually somewhat under the radar or with just enough changes to keep away from a lawsuit.  You would need to see a Seamark out of the water to know if it had Aqua heritage.

Prior to publishing this galactic discovery, spoke with Captain Bob. Figured would run it past him, check his thinking/input.

He said that in the past there was linkage/scuttlebutt regarding Aquasport molds/Shamrock procurement. Just that, talk.

And Shamrock may have never used it...or, sliced and diced. That still goes on.

I don't know...we never will...but that model 2000 Seamark looks like an Aquasport.

Yeah, seems the bow has a little more of a dramatic upturn on the SeaMark vs. the 19-6.  Agree with Fitz, looks more like a 19-1.  Probably a copy of an existing boat, or a copy of that copy.  Seems to be lots of copying that goes on the boat-building industry...  Move some bow-rails, change the rub rail, different console and interior layout and voila!

I used to help build Stinger Boats here in Charleston, a company that Dad partnered in owning, and we really just made a cheap Scout.  But when asked if it was the same boat, we said it was "heavily influenced by the competitors hull design".

I agree SB. Great post/comparative pics Jess. The bow is different. The Seamark is higher. And less raked to the stern. Seamark sharper as SB noted. Certainly a difference regarding the prow lines, at least per the pics.

Maybe the take-off/rip off was from a 19-1? Or totally NOT from our lineage/pedigree/purity?

We may need to call in a super-sleuth.

could be an optical delusion.  The osprey has black bottom paint which throws of the look.  IMO.

On closer observation:

The two pics aren't substantially different. The Seamark is a closer photo, and holds no passengers. Floats higher.

If the Seamark were holding passengers, and at an approximate equal distance in the pic to "Jesse's Girl"...the prow lines are very close, if not the same.

Take a look.
