Aquasport part
« on: November 27, 2021, 04:57:51 PM »
Hey all,
I have this part on top of the transom, actually looks like a two part thing and is on top of the cutout and (mostly) under the motor. Anyon know what this is called and where I can get a replacement or something similar. It looks like it is some kind of rubber/plastic. I am replacing the aluminum angle pieces on either side ( with SS angle) which bridge from it to the rubrail (which I am looking at replacing too sometime in the future).

It's the "transom cap" (my term) that "seals" the area where the cap is joined to the transom. In this regard, it functions like the rub rail in hiding this joint. I replaced mine with a two piece aluminum section I had made at a metal fabrication shop. The original was all plastic but the small section under the motor was not broken so the aluminum pieces fit up against the remaining plastic section. Somewhat similar to what you currently have.

I have no idea where you could find that piece.

Thanks for your input. So, does this piece actually perform a function other than 'trim' for appearance?

No - it covers the gap between the inside liner and the outside transom. In the old days they filled it with fiberglass, later it was plastic.
