So I installed the pipes to carry wires and cables and fuel lines. First I glassed/tabbed down the inside of the stringer to the hull. The I glassed in the pipes. The smaller pipe in the pics will carry the fuel line, I did not want the fuel line to run in the same pipe as the wires and such. Then I poured foam inside the stringers, then put the cap on them and glassed over the tops and down onto the sides a few inches, just hold the cap on and give a little strength. The next step is to cover the stringers with matt and woving roven for strength, not relying on the coosa for the rigid support. And then tab them down to the hull. I may use vinylester for this rather than epoxy. I have been  using vinylester for all this work, and it really seems to adhere very well, if the surface is prepared well--grinded and clean.

I also put a drain from the outside of the stringer to the center of the boat. I am adding hatches and below the floor storage compartments, and making them drain towards the stern, then at the last one, it drains under the stringer to the bilge in the middle of the boat to get picked by the bilge pump. The drain is a few feet from the transom, because the last compartment will end there, and have 3' pvc pipes running towards the transom to hold fishing poles. Behind the compartment, where the pipes will run will be foamed in, so no drainage back there. I glassed over the drain pipes, just a 3" pipe cut in half, so there would be no leakage inside the stringer-then foamed them in.

Orb,
I'm new here and watching your build closely. I too want to extend my stern. A quick question on your extension. Did you build up the extension to match the thickness of the existing hull and then continue with 'tabbing" glass or did you tab into the existing hull from the first layer. Here is a sketch of what i am talking about. Also for the outside, did you just use some thickened vinylester or epoxy and fill and fair the joint, or did you use some glass for tabbing?

Thanks,

TX

If you have a lot of time on your hands here is another thread on extending a boat's hull.  Have fun.

Tx49,
No worries...I am doing this because it is fun, and any help I can give to someone else just makes it even better. I did the first option on your picture. I stuck my jig/mold up under the hull and started from there, so the extension would match and just flow with the hull. I do have a higher section inside the hull just forward of the extension/hull joint, because as one layup I tabbed it all up onto the hull about 12 inches. As far as the outside, I assume you are talking about the outside of the hull, I have not gotten that far yet.

Tx49, show us some pictures...we love pictures.

I want to get pictures, but I need to get a boat to take pictures of.  I just haven't been able to get my hands on the boat yet. I was going to get it tomorrow, but the guy's wife had a baby today-Congrats to him, but sucks for me. It will be another few days to a week before I can get it.

Hi everyone, has this project been finished? Do we have pictures and comments on results? Very interested in this thread, since I found an extended Aquasport 240 with a Diesel engine and straight shaft i am considering in purchasing.

Please update and let us know visual results and performance results (as in seakeeping and handling)

Well since it's been over 4 years since Tx49 logged into the site (20 Aug. 2016), I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response but it could happen. :ScrChin:
