Contemplating installing a through hull fitting while i have the deck off for a washdown pump. I'm sure others on here have. Good idea? Bad idea? Obviously there is some risk with any hole in the hull. Just looking for input.

While not a consensus favorite, I used Marlon rather than brass/bronze. It has held up very well (install date 2010) and the valve handle is still intact (early flaw with these) and moves as free as the day installed.

Now is the time. Washdown and live well can share the same through hull. Either T off the sea cock, or get a pump that offers fitting. You definitely want a sea cock and access to use it Either Marelon or bronze are good. Avoid un reinforced plastic and stainless. Stainless is great above the water line, but below, you’ll be fighting rust stains. A scoop style strainer facing forward will assure that you gave good flow enemy at speed.

The pad is plywood that has been encapsulated with epoxy resin (multiple coats) and cemented to the hull with epoxy thickened with cabosil to a "peanut butter" consistency. It was then painted with white "bilge coat" paint. The seacock is mounted with three "thru bolts".
