29' Aquasport Tournament trolling motor options
« on: May 26, 2012, 05:15:50 AM »
Has anyone ever tried installing an Outboard Engine Bracket with Swim Platforn for trolling?
I found a place that builds them in FL but I'm worried about the transom being too weak.
Maybe beef it up and install?

Inboard transoms are usually pretty skimpy thickness wise, as they don't have motors hanging on them or outdrives protruding through them.  So I would definitely glass a backing block in the location you want to mount...

What do you think about an inner plate with gussets from it to the stringers?

You want to spread the load across a large area, given that the transom is probably the typical thickness of an I/B transom, around an 1 1/2"....

But then, little boats run 25s and 40s all the time on skinny transoms as the main propulsion unit, at speeds far greater than your 29 will ever see.

Just some food for thought...

Trolling valves an option at all? Seems cleaner looking and potentially much easier.
