Bennett Trim Tab Question
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:55:29 PM »
For some reason when i lower my port side tab to level out the boat it retracts itself very soon after, i have plenty of fluid and everything is tight, any ideas, the starboard side works fine.

Circle Hooked,

How old is the system?

From your description it does not sound like you are loosing fluid.  If that is the case we can rule out a leak in the actuator (ram).  Just to be sure inspect the shaft closely for any sign of fluid.

I suspect the culprit is the solenoid valve on the pump for that side is bypassing.  This is usually caused by a damaged or fouled valve seat.

Take a look at this video showing how to change the valve seats. http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/videoplayer.php?vID=16
Send me an e-mail with your mailing address and I will be delighted to send you new valve seats, no charge.

Tom thanks for the quick reply, the tabs are about 12 years old and never any problems till now, and the unit is still full of fluid so no leeks, I'll watch the video and email you my info thanks for being so helpful I really do appreciate it.

Thanks for the great support, Tom.  My Bennett tabs are less than a year old, and I can't imagine our boat without them.  They improve the handling so very much, and I have not had one iota of trouble from them.

Seeing how you roll - and how Bennett rolls - man, I cannot endorse Bennett tabs strongly enough.

Bennett is a credit to the boating industry, and you my friend, are a credit to Bennett.

Necessary Evil,

Thanks for your confidence in our product!

A set of 10" x 12" M120s would be an excellent choice for your 22-2.
