1984 222 XF Mercruiser questions

(1/1)

Boat:
Have the boat in my yard and wonder if I should fix it?

How is it built?  Is the hull solid below the waterline?  Is the transom wood cored above the waterline?  Decks plywood under the fiberglass?

There are some soft spots in the deck but I'd run it like it is.  Not too bad yet.

The transom sounds solid below the waterline and hollow above.

All in all it's not in terrible shape.

The outdrive is off for shifter cable repair according to the Previous Owner.  The Mercruiser 488 has nice paint but I haven't tested anything on it.  I haven't seen a very active Mercruiser forum.  Is the engine forum here good for Mercruiser questions?  Would Marineengine and iBoat be better?

RickK:
Welcome aboard!!
The Aquasport line has always had foam filled fiberglass stringers.  The transom was always wood until the 90s. The main deck is end grain balsa covered in glass.  The deck going forward around cabin is probably plywood backed glass.

Boat:
Got paperwork straightened out enough to trust.  Learned some lessons.  Boat had been registered as a homebuilt wood boat with a state assigned hull number.  It also had been reassigned different bow numbers by another state.  I have it back to the original bow number and hull number but it is still listed as a wood boat.  I'll get them to fix that too.  Registered in my name until April 2020.

Project resumes after a delay for lack of trust in paperwork.
