222 Rebuilds

New to the group,

Posted a current picture after we removed the two aluminum gas tanks underneath the C.C. And will update after we cut the rest of the deck away.

Planning on rebuilding the transom.

Spend a few minutes to absorb the instructions. It's really easy. Remember if using a phone to take pics, to hold the phone horizontal with the lens to the left.

Just posted the latest image of the C.C., Al gas tanks, and 115 Evinrude removed.

Spent the day removing the rub rail. And making a template of the deck to cut the new board to.




Planning to remove the remaining deck away this week. And remove old foam.

We are going to go with a flat deck rebuild.

Still unsure about what to do with the plexi-glass viewers?

CB, I didn't realize it was a FB until I saw the baitwell in the stringer system, then saw the plexi windows. I then moved the thread to the right forum.

Aquaman, if the windows are in good shape and not leaking, I would leave them.  Some have removed them but it is a lot of work to fill the holes. Are you going to use that baitwell? Here is a picture of another "Diver" hull, showing a cleaned up baitwell




Here is one of the factory options on these Diver models.

Thanks for info C.B. and Rick.

I was able to find a lot more info from your leads.

We are going to wait until the remaining deck is pulled up before we decide on whether or not we want to use the original baitwell. It seems unpractical, but we are planning to reinforce the glass viewer/ baitwell at least 3x over with epoxy and glass.

There was some repair done to the Starboard side where there may have been the original diving platform, which is not present. We are going to investigate this more now that we know it is a Diver FB.

As of now we are planning to remount the 115hp Evinrude. And depending on the transom conditions; we will reglass the transom 3x.
We are still wondering how thick our new Coosa deck should be. And we are considering putting up a hard top T-top or a half tower.

The other question we are considering is if we should reinstall the two Al. gas tanks or install a new tank underneath the deck. The 2 tanks do not seem efficient. We think that even with a larger single tank that once we are up to speed that it shouldn’t affect our mpg on longer outings.

IIRC the original stringers were not very tall and therefore the installation of a tank under the sole was complicated since the fill tube is on top as well as the vent and line to the engine. This forced the rebuilder to take out the stringers and replace with either taller trapezoid stringers or use a composite board like coosa to raise the deck height and get the fuel tank under the sole.

Thanks for all of the encouragement and support.

It looks like there may have been an original dive platform that was glassed over. But from the photos Rick posted it looks like the dive platform is suppose to retract into the side of the boat so that it doesn't protrude. And the patch work only goes up to about the waterline/ original paint.

Spent all day today getting the boat up off the trailer so that we have a level platform for the deck rebuild. And for repainting the boat afterwards.

C.B. I hope you like our new profile picture =)

Got the F.B. Diver up on foam and was doing some engine diagnostics. And finishing the template for the deck rebuild today. Planning to cut away the rest of the deck tomorrow.



Got the boat off the trailer and up on blocks.

We have a few concerns -

   Right now we are thinking that with the new foam, epoxy, glass, ‘Coosa Board’ (3/4’’), and more glass X2: the deck will be raised about 2’’. The previous owner thinks that we should raise the new deck to about 5’’ to help with these concerns.

   The Capt. Also was using two bilge pumps. One on the deck and one underneath the deck in the hull (this is a major concern/ self-draining). And we are rereading Rick’s posts about the issues and problems, such as using PVC to help drain the Thru-Hulls.

   We were also advised that the aluminum tanks are shot and that we should not reuse them. And now we are reconsidering installing a new poly-tank underneath the deck…

We are considering options to rebuild the stringers and gunnels. It seems like the Coosa composite board is favorable to go over the new glass, 5 lb foam, and epoxy.

We are thinking about creating trapezoidal frames between the gunnels and stringers. And may use starboard and reinforce the deck side with aluminum.

Does anyone know if it is worth looking into purchasing Dyplast for the deck rebuild?

I'm confused. First, who is "we"? Second, are you planning to gut the boat totally, stringers, casting deck,  everything out of the boat?
If your stringers are still in good shape and you're trying to raise the deck, there are easier ways to raise it beside gutting the boat - I went that route and whooo boy - it was a long trip.

My father and I are doing the work.

There was no foam between the stringers and the stringers were not closed off. My father and myself are going to re-foam and re-glass the stringers and Gunnels.

Yes, I've looked through your posts Rick. We are planning to run PVC to and from the center console to the bow and the stern.

There's a lot of useful knowledge to sort through thanks to this forum. And we are moving towards removing the old foam from the gunnels and stringers and to seal them with several layers of glass, some marine board and epoxy. My father and I are also thinking that it is a good idea to reinforce the hull with aluminum, which will strengthen the new  deck and everything else on top of it.
