More Restoration Pictures Aquasport 170
« on: July 15, 2012, 09:20:22 PM »
Finally got the gas tank installed. The new tank was sanded with 60 grit, cleaned and coated with Coal Tar Epoxy. After it was installed it was was foamed in with 4lb closed cell foam, trimmed the foam and glassed in with cloth and epoxy resin. Water will never touch this tank or if it does, no problem.

The bottom of the tank cover and the cut out for the speakers were sealed with epoxy resin.

I made backing plates for the rod holders and all the hinges.

I made a "glove compartment door" for the console and installed a stereo I bought 6 years ago for another boat. The stereo sounds great..! Everything will go quickly now.

Yes I do on the Key West forum. I posted replacing the gas tank on my sons 1720 Sportsman. Nice to see you here.

Thank you for the compliments. I'm retired so I have allot of time on my hands so I go a little bit overboard on the details and I'm in no hurry.

You will see on the gas tank pickup I use annodized aluminum fittings. I figure if you have an aluminum tank keep all the fittings the same to help eliminate corrosion. I worked on a boat years ago that had just the very end of a hose clamp touching the aluminum tank. Guess what..? There was a hole right there where it was touching..!

I also used 16 AWG marine wire for the speaker wire. Seems to work fine.

The tank cover has been installed along with the console. The console was pre wired with terminal strips and the boat was aslo prewired. It took 15 minutes to connect all the wiring and have everything working.

The bow nav lighting and LED lights under the gunwale's was run in a 105 degree rated tubing attached under the gunwale to PVC board that was bonded to the undersides on the gunwale's. It runs to the starboard side access cover and then down into the hull. The bilge pump wiring also runs up to the access cover and then into the tubing.

The tubing then comes up into the rigging tray and runs up to the console where it is attched to the side of the console to more PVC board. The hole in the rigging tray was heavily caulked with 4200 and then a clam shell caulked and placed over the tubing. I think it will work fine. Only time will tell.

The 3/4" bilge pump hose comes up inside the access cover to a 3/4" 90 degree thru hull. It was very easy to pull the hose from the pump over the stringer in the rear and up to the side of the boat.

The red wire shown in the picture is a "future" circuit pulled into the bilge area for underwater lighting.

Since we painted the engine cowlings with Awlraft 2000 I decided to paint the engine bracket and related parts also. It took almost 4 days to get everything prepped and and 1 hour to paint.

Almost finished 170
« Reply #13 on: August 24, 2012, 05:56:27 PM »
Admin Edit: I merged these topics so we can keep everything about this rebuild together.

The boat is almost completely finished. We put the bait boxes on today but I didn't take a picture. We put the cover on the boat, preparing for the Hurricane. I live in Gulf Breeze, FL which is south of Pensacola towards the gulf.

I am waiting on the harness conversion kit that I didn't order

The power head was rebuilt by Coastal Machine here in Pensacola. They use a high dollar coated piston for easier and safer break in.

Tell me what you think about the yellow decals on the engine. I think they are to bold and will probably go to white.

I took the 115 decal off the back of the engine. Way to big and ghetto looking..!
