Fuel tank foam

To replace the foam around your fuel tank, does it come in a spray can like the foam you spray to insulate windows?

I believe foam does come in a can or other form that expands when applied. I've been told to be very careful applying it, as the stuff is pretty powerful and if you put too much in a confined area, it will bust through any weak spots.

I bought my foam at my fiberglass supply house and it comes in 2 parts that you mix and pour into the area.  Make sure you mix "just enough" (unlikely to know without a lot of experience) or have an expansion route/hole or like Captain says, it'll cause unseen/unknown problems like pop your floor loose or ....

When I was mixing some two part foam (Evercoat Foam-It Flotation Kit) it took me by surprize! I mixed it as directed and with no warning within about 20 seconds it reacted like a volcano erupting! Foam boiled up all over the place! It was a mess, but also entertaining!

I recomend mixing small batches right where you plan to put it.

Be aware that you DO NOT want to use the foam in a can for foaming a tank. Most of the 2part foam's in the marine store's are 2lb density.
For foaming in a tank you want 4ld density.

A gal kit of 2lb density make 8cuft of foam.
Agal kit of 4lb density makes 4cuft of foam.
