installing Macerator in explorer 225
« on: July 10, 2010, 11:19:34 PM »
I want to upgrade my fish box drain with a macerator pump, for the people who have installed them before, can i keep all existing wires and just upgrade the breaker in the front panel to a 20amp or do i need to install a relay in the stern and run something to the battery.

thanks

Dave,
You'll also need to run a pair of 10GA wires, red forward to the switch at the helm, black to the ground bus on the starboard transom wall.  Macerators draw a lot more current than washdown or bilge pumps.  I'd replace the switch with a momentary on/off too.  Leave the pump on, water gets pumped out, pump runs dry...not good.

sea bob,

thanks for the insite, the switch is a great idea, but i think what im going to do is , keep the existing wires and breaker , replace the switch and install  a relay at the stern. I will use the existing line just for the relay trigger and run seperate fused line to the battery.

Dave,

Could you please keep a photo esay of what you are doing and post them as you go or post them up once you are done?

I own a 2004 AS Exporer and have the same problem almost every one else has with the factory setup.

Thanks.
